Does our boy Lupe Fiasco look a little lost to you in this picture Maybe it’s because he is. Just last night, political commentator, Bill O’Reilly, had Lupe Fiasco on his show to discuss recent events, like the capture and killing of Osama Bin Laden. In this 5 minute video, O’Reilly found it a bit hard to get a word in and was a little shocked by the amount of interruptions . . . and I’m not talking about commercials.
Personally, I believe that someone at Lupe’s level who’s reach extends across the world and influences the minds of so many, this is not the way he should have conveyed his personal opinion on our nation’s leader. Fiasco is a significant representation of the American hiphop culture and I’ve already seen […]
[audio:Words-I-Never-Said.mp3|titles=Words I Never Said Ft. Skylar Grey]Aight, so there’s eight summertime songs mashed in this next of PL 2011 Remixes, “Pretty Lights vs Summertime”. I’ll throw one out and y’all give me the rest! That’s right, a lil’ participation from you SOB’s ;)
1. DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince – Summertime
[audio:Pretty-Lights-Summertime.mp3|titles=Pretty Lights vs Summertime]Canada is surprising me in all fronts of music these days – from Hip-Hop to R&B, shit is swellin’ up North.
In my latest find, Kyprios, formerly from Sweatshop Union, teamed up with Rob the Viking of Swollen Members for “How The West Was One” – a tribute to the Vancouver Canucks. The lyrics are catchy as hell, especially those chorus lines. It’s that shit when you wake up in the morning and can’t get it out of your head.
[audio:How-The-West-Was-Won.mp3|titles=How the West Was One]“Seijun Suzuki” hit the hardest the first time around Cinemetropolis – that beat just catches. Now that I’ve been listening to Cinemetropolis a few more times, I’m starting to feel a few more.
I’ve been listening to Blue Scholars for a few years now and love what they’re doin in the Pacific Northwest. Sabzi is progressing his sound nicely and Geo keeps on with the lyrics. Hit me up with your favorites on this until I get in a few more listens. (Check it on Bandcamp)
[audio:Seijun-Suzuki.mp3|titles=Seijun Suzuki]Goulding is still the DUBSTEP Queen, but a nice change of pace sets this “Starry Eyed” night right. The remix brings in vocals from Theophilis London’s cover of “Starry Eyed” and the two mix well.
Can’t wait to see her in Minneapolis this August… since she cancelled last time :(
[audio:Starry-Eyed-Penguin-Remix.mp3|titles=Starry Eyed (Penguin Prison Remix)]Is it the incredible beat or the fact that the BOSS is on this that makes this track so dope. I have a feeling it is a little bit of both. If you didn’t know, Big Sean is the truth and is one of the cooler artists in my book simply because he just released his entire debut album, Finally Famous, for stream on his Soundcloud. I listened to it.. and again.. and again and came to the conclusion that “100 Keys” with Rick Ross and Pusha T is by far the stand out track on the album. Each of the rappers kill their verses and the beat is unlike any song I have heard lately. This is what pushing a 100 keys sounds like. Get money […]
[audio:100-Keys.mp3|titles=100 Keys]Another track released for the upcoming mixtape, Thursday, by The Weeknd. Gotta imagine this is gonna be on the mixtape, like “Rolling Stone“, but I’m not sure if I’m ready to move beyond House of Ballons quite yet.
I do like what Abel is puttin out – still bringin that powerful, high-pitched soul, yet still giving us something new by varying up his vocals. However, the beat doesn’t bring all that much for me. It ain’t all that bad, but it sure as hell doesn’t compare to most of the tracks on House of Ballons. It’s good to hear a more upbeat Weeknd, but I’m still stuck in the dark ‘n’ grimey one for now.
[audio:The-Birds.mp3|titles=The Birds (Part 1)]We’ve all come across one of these or know someone who has, albeit under a different name – more commonly known as heartbreakers, Kenton Dunson calls them firestarters. The one’s who burn your heart and a trail of guys after you. As Kenton says, “I feel bad for the next guy.. and the next guy,” you should be cautious around these ones.
Nevertheless, they make for great song material as Kenton gracefully demonstrates over a harmonious piano and synth melody. The chorus will have you hooked from the beginning, but the verses from Kenton really make […]
[audio:Firestarter.mp3|titles=Firestarter]The Hype Machine allows you to manually subscribe to the artists, blogs, friends and search terms of your choice. As helpful as it’s been to create a more customized playlist, it becomes increasingly harder to keep up with and subscribe to all the stuff you like. Therefore, Hypem should start building an automated recommendation system to do the task for you. Before we can figure out what to recommend and how to display it on Hypem – which’ll be covered in a later post – we’ll need to find out where to pull the information from. Luckily, it’s right at the heart of The Hype Machine… literally, the […]
After Kanye hit up Facebook headquarters in July of last year with an a capella of “Mama’s Boyfriend”, we finally get to hear the track with full productions from, who’s rumored to be, Madlib or Q-tip (but who knows).
This is definitely a throwback to Kanye’s older sound and is probably the reason why it wasn’t on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Whatever whoever is sayin, it’s good to hear this style of Kanye pop up over his progression in music.
