Do I Do (U-Tern Disco Edit) by Stevie Wonder

"Yes I got some candy kisses for your lips."

I’m finally getting how to find music I like on SoundCloud. The site’s mostly compiled of DJ’s with a lot of new and exciting talents. A lot of it’s experimental and therefor won’t appeal to a large audience, but there’s still a lot of tracks that will, or at least I hope…

U-Tern’s remix of “Do I Do” by Stevie Wonder is a fresh edit to a classic. It’s got a good build to it and once it tops off, you can’t help but shakin’ yo booty (I did) or doin’ the “white man’s dance”, as my father pointed out.

I look forward to following this stylish Canadian DJ. I really hope he put’s out more remixes to great R&B legends… Bill Withers!

KanYe Outdid Diddy

The next evolution in (mainstream) hip-hop (we're gettin' there).

With all these tracks Kanye is pushing out and his G.O.O.D. music label growing, the man’s becoming a multi-purpose music machine rather than just a top charting hip-hop artist. But unlike Diddy, KanYe is enlisting some of the best acts in hip-hop.

If you take a look at the two’s recently released tracks – KanYe’s “Christian Dior Denim Flow” & Diddy’s “Another One” – you see where hip-hop is growing apart and evolving (at least in some areas). It’s not really about how the beat’s evolving or even the lyrics. That may have a part in it, but it’s mainly how the culture is progressing. For too long hip-hop’s been about […]

The Preview by Chiddy Bang

Workin' wonders with Logic 'n' Reason.

When I posted “The Good Life” a couple days back, I wasn’t expecting to listen to The Preview just a few days later. I had no idea at the time that the Australian release was set for October 1.

Last night a buddy of mine from New Zealand hooked me up with a link. I thought he was fucking with me at first, but after sampling the tracks I figured it was legit. The album’s been on repeat since and of course I have mixed reviews (always happens with new albums).

To The Preview and Chiddy Bang’s credit, these guys have come out with two stellar tracks in the past few month “Pass Out” & “The Good Life”, not to mention […]

Dubber Side of the Moon (Preview)

by Easy Star All-Stars - releases October 26

Dub Side of the Moon is a reggae tribute to Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. Since it’s release in early 2003, the album has gotten marketable success and the group’s been touring in support of it since. They also went on to cover other famous albums by Radiohead and The Beatles, but none grew to the success of Dub Side.

Recently, the group enlisted some of the best dubstep DJ’s to remix Dub Side of the Moon to an even dubbier() dub (dubstep), rightfully titled Dubber Side of the Moon.

I’ve listened to a couple tracks so far and it seems like it’s another unique take off Pink Floyd’s original. I’ve only gotten to check out three songs and, although not all topped their predecessors, there’s one that may have pulled it off. […]

Smell It (Starfucker Remix) by Copy

One chill-ass tune.

While on my daily Facebook stocking rounds, I came across a Starfucker’s post on Josh Hodges’s remix of “I Can Smell It”, originally by Copy.

Let’s just say there’s a big damn difference between the two. I was originally going to post Copy’s version along with the remix, but it really wasn’t worth it. Props to Copy for the original, but it’s got nothing on Josh’s remix.

I find with a lot of electronic beats, there are usually some sick samples used, but when they put it all together it falls short of a stand out track. It’s not just about taking/creating good beats, but how you […]

The Good Life by Chiddy Bang

"Swelly, swelly, Swelly, swelly, Swelly, swelly, Swelly"

With The Preview right around the corner, I decided to post a preview of The Preview.

Chiddy Bang’s first single off their upcoming EP dropped just over two weeks ago. I’ve had some time with the “The Good Life” and it’s definitely a good show at what’s to come.

I really think Chiddy Bang has serious potential at making it big. First off, they are signed under Parlophone Records, which houses some great acts, including Gorillaz, Radiohead and The Chemical Brothers, just to name a few. Second, the duo has the character and personality to hook a wide audience. So much hip-hop today lacks character/personality, and with Chiddy Bang’s cunning play on words and finely laid out beats, I expect these two to […]

Work it Out by Grap Luva

Produced by Joc Max & Recorded by Damu the Fudgemunk

Caught this thanks to K-Murdock who’s worked with Damu on Panacea in the past and I’m sure the future (big fan).

I’ve followed Damu the Fudgemunk’s works for a few years now, but as for the other two, Grap Luva & Joc Max, I’ve only heard ’em through word of mouth, although I’m sure I’ve run into their work before. But strictly speaking, “Work it Out” is one hell of a smooth & soulful hip-hop track. Lately, I’ve been seeing a lack of soul in a lot of hip-hop (not all), and it’s good to see something soulfully fresh.

Grap Luva is reportedly releasing a 7-track EP later this year and “Work it Out” is a good glimpse in what’s to come. I’m lovin’ Grap’s tone against the instrumentals the other two whipped up. He’s best advised to keep Damu & Joc Max on the beats for his upcoming EP. Shit will kill.

The Recluse (Nero Remix) by Plan B

My new theme song!

I was surfing SoundCloud a few days back, at work, when I ran into this beaut’. It took me sometime to catch the lyrics, but when I did, I realized they spoke the words that I’ve felt for so long.

I do love to rage on the occasion, but sometimes I like going a couple days without seeing anyone – I just get so much more done! And a lot of my friends/family can’t quite understand that. I guess now I can just point ’em to this song :)

The only thing I don’t like about “The Recluse” is Plan B’s rap towards the end. I’ve dealt with a lot of hip-hop artists from […]

Stuck on an Island by ¡MAYDAY! (Preview)

Mayday's payday comin' October 12.

I got a press advance of Stuck on an Island a few months back (so sweet), but held on to it for a while until closer to the release date.

I’ve been a big fan of ¡MAYDAY! since their self-titled release back in ’06. In fact, it was one of the reasons I created the site in the first place – they were my second post, right after DJ Frane. Since then I’ve been waiting for the next LP and it’s finally here – well, soon for y’all :p

So what do I think of the album I’m not going to get into it too much until it’s released on Oct. 12, but there are definitely a few stand out tracks. It may not be up to the standard of their first album – I’m always bias to […]

Wolfgang’s 5th Symphony by Wolfgang Gartner

Mozart raving on MDMA.

This dude totally stole my idea!… and just about a few million others. I’ve always wanted to remix classic works. But it’s all about pulling it off, something I haven’t done… yet, and Wolfgang Gartner has done just that. Throughout the piece I get a little lost at times, but I quickly catch up – he seems to stray from the original a little too much for my liking.

Bassnectar introduced me to this dubstep, electro, house-type music. I’m really starting to dig the glitchy reverberations that I’ve never really heard before. I’m still fairly new to the genre/various sub-genres, but it sure makes for good workout music.

Anyone got some suggestions on good workout music
