And we’re back! Moved to San Fran, so I had to take a few days off (didn’t prepare ahead). We’ve got some interesting projects on the way, but until then we’ll be throwing out some soulful singles for ya – first up, an ode to graffiti.
We featured Piece of Mind about a month back with their ‘Rap Phenomenon‘ single and now we’ve got another of their latest. ‘Graffiti’ starts off with a sample of some old dude who doesn’t seem to understand graffiti… typical. Then we transition into G Roc Gayle’s raps about why graffiti is so important to our culture with a few short samples of The Pharcyde’s ‘Passing Me By.’
I like what G Roc does with his vocal cuts on the track, which ride along well with Dj Gedsi’s beat. Get a few more MC’s on here and this could shape up to be Toronto’s next big underground hip-hop collective.

The vocals seemed too damn familiar, like an R&B track from the late 90’s, but there was no indication that this wasn’t their work. But every time I listened to it, I just knew it wasn’t. So thanks to Google, I finally found out that this is in fact a remix of Wayne Wonder’s “No Letting Go” … and now I feel like a jackass for not knowing that.
Too many SoundClouders don’t put down the proper information for a track they post. For whatever reason, copyright or otherwise, it gets to be a pain in the ass for people like me to hunt down the information, let alone even know it’s a remix. To be fair, it’s not that hard to ask or figure it out, but why make it more complicated than it has to be…
[audio:Got-Somebody.mp3|titles=Got Somebody]A nu-disco Trak with Kimbra & Mark Foster on backups, now that’s a get together. I haven’t heard much from Kimbra before, minus her song with Gotye, but she really shines with that fresh A-trak beat. She’s got a hint of pop flavor, but with a sass that doesn’t sound as manufactured as, say, Katy Perry. Plus, that Foster support isn’t hurting her cause.
[audio:Warrior.mp3|titles=Warrior]My first thought when I heard this, without seeing the title, was that it would be perfect for a lazy sunday. But there’s no way I’m waiting ’til Sunday to release this smooooooooth tune, so just make it a lazy day whatever one it is. I’d also love to hear some smooth West Coast rhymes over it, but I doubt I could find any worthy … I’m way too picky when it comes to MC’s (and so should you!)

The two tracks are a crisp of the strangeness, but ‘What’s a Half Step Among Friends,’ steals it… and not just because of those Timbaland samples!
[soundcloud url="http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/41318444" params="player_type=tiny&font=Arial&color=292929" height="18"]Ok, so I love me some hard electro, and Apashe certainly delivers (along with pretty much everyone else from Montreal based Kannibalen Records). Apashe, a Belgian artist, began his production career making ‘breakcore’ tracks. I’m not sure what exactly breakcore is, but that’s what he calls it. Anyway, he recently moved to Montreal and switched things up, producing his own breed of electro-dusbtep […]
[audio:http://silencenogood.net/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Swing-Your-Motha.mp3|titles=Swing Your Motha]To celebrate the season 2 premiere of Game of Thrones, Rameses B takes on the television show’s theme song and remixes it with such a calming vibe you wouldn’t believe it was dubstep, but it surely is.
What I can’t believe is that more epic shows like this haven’t used melodic dubstep in their scores. It creates such a rapturous feeling (or something like that) … they’ll catch on soon enough.
[soundcloud url="http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/41565559" params="player_type=tiny&font=Arial&color=292929" height="18"]I still love the dirty bass, as long as it charms me with a lil’ melody. ajapai’s “Drop The Bomb” drops one catchy melody and throws in some electro-madness tuh boot. Only thing missing, which I’m sure we can all agree on, is a few more seconds on the clock. It’s too damn short!
[soundcloud url="http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/40775572" params="player_type=tiny&font=Arial&color=292929" height="18"]Madeaux presents another twisted tune with pretty piano playin on top and Ray J samples. I’ll let Madeaux explain why it’s called “Song #2″…
I wanted to give you a little background into this song because I feel like it’s fun when you can connect with the music you listen to on multiple levels. I wrote this song for my girlfriend a long time ago but I never finished it. Whenever we would talk and I’d tell her about new stuff I was working on she’d always ask “What about song #2” When I had sent her the song awhile back I just titled the mp3 song #2 because I had no concrete titles thought up yet. What I want to ask of all you listening is, what would you call this song What does it make you think of Post what you think in the comments below. I’d love to know your ideas.
So you’re still with the girlfriend I guess “Loved You” wouldn’t make her too happy.

The release is exactly what one would expect from Mr. Fustang. His signature super fat saws and squares remain the driving force behind all of his tracks, which, coupled with complextro drops and a dash of vocal chops, has proven to be an award winning formula for Beatport’s Breakthrough Artist of the Year.
