Kostrok · Right Now (Yuksek Remix)

Because it gets the people going

There are a lot of great builds & drops that I’ve heard before, but there’s not many that build as quickly and drop as smoothly as in Yuksek’s remix of ‘Right Now.’ And not many that catch like this chorus. The only thing I could go without is the indie interlude, but it picks up soon enough.

Also make sure to check out the original by Kostrok. Mighty different (not nearly as good).

Minnesota · Bloom

Melodic bass, best music to relax to

Minnesota’s ‘Bloom’ has finally convinced me to post my melodic dubstep mixtape and actually gave me the idea for a more appropriate name, melodic bass, although it’s all just words by now. So look out for that in the next coming weeks, but until then check out why Bloom has inspired me so much. Like I already hinted at, it’s got one catchy melody supported by a beautiful bass line.

Goldroom · Only You Can Show Me (feat. Mereki)

Still undecided if I like The Knock's remix of this better, tuff call.

How have I only just been introduced to Goldroom I wanna say I first heard of him through his heavy Saguaro Mix, but I feel like I’ve known about him even before that. It could’ve been The Knock’s remix of ‘Only You Can Show Me,’ which I may like more than Goldroom’s original, or maybe not. Still undecided.

A thanks also goes to Goldroom for crediting Mereki on the track. Not enough producers credit their vocalists, surprisingly enough. I’ll admit I like to see titles clean, but vocals like Mereki deserve credit at the top as much as Goldroom’s name does.

Tiny Tiny · Take the Time

Tryin out this indie stuff, one at a time.

Like all the indie and most the music I listen to, I can’t quite spell out why I like what I like in the songs that I post here. Really, it’s just the right sounds conforming at the right time, I guess.

Tiny Tiny is straight up indie that I’m not quite sure on yet, my prowess with indie music is still in its infancy, but every sound of theirs has conformed right in my head so far. My favorite of theirs, ‘Take the Time,’ reminds me of of Robin Hood (Disney’s) or some song from a Wes Anderson film.

Make sure to check out Bordeaux if you’re into this. Similar voicemanship (not a real world).

GRiZ · Gettin’ Live

Can't go wrong with Tupac mixed in right.

GRiZ has been reppin this Colorado-based style of electronic well recently. I talked earlier about Pretty Lights’ new track, ‘Around the Block,’ and it’s continuing the movement PL helped start, but GRiZ seems to be the man pushing it forward. With a much heavier style of bass, ‘Gettin Live’ is taking hip-hop samples and mixing that full sound electro in fresher than I’ve heard in sometime.

Les Sins · Grind

Girl I gotta

Just another one of those ponder your life type nights and what tune to top it off. Toro y Moi’s other project, Les Sins, has one smooth little shit of a song, ‘Grind,’ which turns especially smooth when the vocals kick in.

Charles Bordeaux · Blackhole Girl

Bordeaux doin' disco. What a pleasant surprise.

How the hell did I not think this one up Bordeaux has been making my melancholy music since the last half of 2012 and if you know anything about this blog, you know how much we love disco. And yet somehow I didn’t complain that the two haven’t gotten together yet – I usually do it so well.

Well, no need to complain now. Bordeaux brings a sombre touch to this flashy, nu disco movement and the only gripe I got with it is that I didn’t think to pair up the two first (which I’m sure you’re well aware of by now).

POLIÇA · Tiff (feat. Justin Vernon)

Just a pawn in the hype machine

I can’t understand half of what she’s saying, but whatever it is she says it well. Polica came onto my radar once I got to know the Midwest super group, GAYNGS, which they’re a part of. Justin Vernon is also involved with the supagroup and features on this newest Polica track, ‘Tiff.’

Vernon might actually be the only thing I didn’t like on ‘Tiff.’ His intro half way through the song doesn’t sound right and just wasn’t blended well, though his eerier presence afterwards fit in right. Other than that the song seems to be hit worthy, especially on the Hype Machine.

Just two days into the song, over 40 bloggers have already mentioned Tiff. The song actually, intentionally or unintentionally, brings up that they’re a “pawn in the hype machine” and I’m wondering how many bloggers admitted the same on their post.

Candyland · Bring The Rain (Brown & Gammon Rmx)

Saving Lexi Forche's voice from another terrible dubstep drop

Once again a remix saves the vocals. Brown & Gammon took a stereotypical dubstep track with powerful female vocals & uncontrollable bass tangents and turned it into a hit straight from the post-disco 80’s – updating it to for our electro ears, of course. Trust me, the bass in this is much better.

Pretty Lights · Around the Block (feat. Talib Kweli)

That PL sound never gets old, but how long will it last.

I gotta admit this was an impulse postage. In that I really didn’t take the time to see if it was even worth posting. But when you have Pretty Lights + Talib Kweli in the same sentence, it’s pretty much on auto post.

On the up & down side, Pretty Lights sticks to that electro-funk hip-hop he’s personified so well. And even though I’m not sure how long lasting ‘Around the Block’ will be, it’s only the first single off PL’s new album, A Color Map of the Sun, so all it needs to last is ’til the release (that being July).
