The M Machine’s new album (or half of an album), Metropolis Pt. 1, has been my most anticipated of the year so far. We finally get to hear what the group is all about. I wouldn’t know how to describe the music at first listen – it’s a mix of electro, rock, synth-pop, industrial, and a unique brand of hushed vocals with brooding synths.
If you had asked me yesterday who my favorite founding member of OWSLA was (next to Skrilly), I would’ve said Porter Robinson. Not so anymore. I’ve only included my favorite track, ‘Immigrants,’ from the first half of the album here. If you like what you hear, please go buy Metropolis Pt. 1, so that these guys can continue making good music.

Apashe, a Belgian artist, began his production career making ‘breakcore’ tracks. I’m not sure what exactly breakcore is, but that’s what he calls it. Anyway, he recently moved to Montreal and switched things up, producing his own breed of electro-dusbtep […]

The release is exactly what one would expect from Mr. Fustang. His signature super fat saws and squares remain the driving force behind all of his tracks, which, coupled with complextro drops and a dash of vocal chops, has proven to be an award winning formula for Beatport’s Breakthrough Artist of the Year.
[audio:http://silencenogood.net/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/01-The-Majestic.mp3|titles=The Majestic]When Sweet Treats Vol. 1 was released a few months ago as a three track sampler, it seemed more like a single for Skrillex’s track “Needed Change” with a couple extras rather than a compilation. I was sure the idea had died and no more freebies would be released, but then Vol. 2 was just released last week.
Free Treats Vol. 2 is dope. The sampler features over 20 artists on 19 tracks, with contributions from The M Machine, Alvin Risk, Bare Noize, Topher Jones, and a quite a few more. [side note: it sounds like Nick Thayer has finally gotten a proper introduction to OWSLA]. There are too many tracks to dissect them all, but this release is well worth your time to listen to. I think its safe to say we can expect big things from OWSLA in the near future.

Pance Party’s tracks, characterized by super fat basses, melodic synths, and brain-tingling vocal shots, stand more than a cut above the rest of the increasingly monotonous electro scene.
I wish these guys had stayed together, but if the rumors that The M Machine was born from Pance Party’s ashes are true then I’m more than happy to wait for their LP to drop, whenever that may be […]

The man’s explosion onto the EDM scene just over one year ago took everyone by surprise. Practically overnight, he went from being a niche-scene unknown into an ambassador of EDM with 8 of Beatport’s top 10 slots all to himself for a at least a few weeks. I’m pretty sure that’s never happened before.
So this must have some significance, right I mean we, the music-listening community, are the ones who gave Sonny his throne. Why has his music generated so much (more than normal) backlash
[audio:http://silencenogood.net/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/06-Signal.mp3|titles=Signal]A relative newcomer to the scene, Ryan Enzed has demonstrated his mastery of creating and combining synths in his numerous youtube tutorials about vsts and DAWs, such as Massive and Logic Pro. He champions the newest style of electro, ‘complextro,’ characterized by complex bass and melody lines made up of multiple synths.
With a few solid beatport releases, and an official remix of Martin Solveig’s ‘Hello’ (as well as a banging bootleg of Nicky Romero’s ‘Toulouse’), Ryan Enzed appears ready to show the EDM world what he can do in 2012.

It all started out through our transition with hip-hop. I remember thinking to myself that we needed more uptempo, dance type music. A year later and the majority of the site is just that. As much as we need to hop back on the hip-hop wagon, this electro ride has been one of our favorites!

It’s not often that I find remixes that I like. I almost literally rip my hair out when I hear one – in fact, my roommate has often scolded me for yelling at my speakers – “THOSE LYRICS DON’T GO THERE. THEY DON’T EVEN FIT.”
But I couldn’t resist enjoying this one. It’s probably just because Passion Pit’s the shit, but still […]

But as much as I love 80% of it, the other 20% needs mentioning.
The dub coiling half way through the piece really isn’t needed, but I understand its appeal and inclusion. However, it does need to tone down the dub and smoothin out the coiling into a more melodic style of dubstep. Still, nothin but love for this.
