About three months back I thought about compiling a list of “Rolling in the Deep” remixes, mashups & covers. However, pickings were slim at the time, so I held off. Now that I’ve come back to it, there are so many producers who’ve chopped and edited “Rolling in the Deep” that I’ve had to focus on one style – Rompers! Most of these are dubstep, but I’ve found some House and a few other ragers.
If you’re not familiar with dubstep, you’re probably not going to like these (and I do understand). But if ya love ‘steppin just as much as I, get ready for some coiling goodnass(ty). There’s just about a dozen remixes for you to get lean to, so let’s get this party started!
[audio:Rolling-Deep-F3RAL.mp3|titles=Rolling In the Deep [F3RAL DnB Bootleg]Always impressed by a talented beatboxer . . . but over a drum & bass beat Wow, what a combo. Stumbled across Warrior Music’s Soundcloud a few months back and was blown away by every track, “Chasing Sky” in particular (along with “Middle of the Night”, so be sure to check that one out too!)
I love dubstep, but (personally) always to a certain point – here, Warrior Music has a really nice balance of integrating dubstep/drum & bass/vocals within one another, which kind of lightens the heavy load. However, I do wish he used Ekko’s beatboxing a bit more here, but hey, at least he got the ball rolling on a new trend […]
[audio:Chasing-Sky.mp3|titles=Chasing Sky]Planned on doing this for some time, but never thought I had enough. Well, when I first started compiling I definitely didn’t – but after a lot of research on YouTube, SoundCloud & beyond, I’ve come up with nine solid dubstep remixes of that classic rock we’ve grown up on.
Two rock legends I wanted to find were Jimi Hendrix & ZZ Top, but unfortunately there weren’t any quality ones out there. If you know of any, or any other dubstep remixes I haven’t included here, hit it up in the comments below!
[audio:Money-Alchemist-Remix.mp3|titles=Money (The Alchemist Remix)]Of all drugged out compositions to dubstep, Requiem for a Dream has to make the top bill (pill). Andy’s Ill dub fix gets right to the root of the “problem” and makes this an ever better beat to get fucked up to.
I need to see more scores get dubstepped… someone do a Hans Zimmer, there’s gotta be a few out there… What famous score would you like to see dubstep’d
[audio:Requiem-For-A-Dream-Remix.mp3|titles=Requiem for a Dream (Andy’s Ill Dub Fix)]First thing that popped in my head when listening to Hooky’s newest track, “R K’d”, was right before the build up, the “pops” sounded so much like Mario jumping straight outta Super Mario Bros. 2 (specifically that one for some reason). Then shortly after (well, it was a bit longer), I realized that “R K’d” is “arcade” – I’m a little slow, I know.
But other than that dumb witted thought, “R K’d” is another fresh dubstep mind melter from the Hookster. My favorite track from his will probably always be his remix of “Make You Pop”, it really solified my appreciation for dubstep, but it’s nice to know he doesn’t always have to rely on remixes and, more importantly, he can actually pull off something on his own.
Edit: shot Hooky an email about the Mario thang and he made the sound all on his own (damn!)
More importantly, as “Dan the man” pointed out, wait for the second drop – one of the best I’ve heard in a while.
This week it was my turn to pick/host the Monday Mixer, in which a bunch of blogs get together and each submits a track based on that week’s theme. I decided to go with a “dubstep remix” theme because of my growing interest in dubstep, one I’m still trying to figure out myself.
When I picked the theme, I thought I was going to get a lot of submissions that, honestly, I wouldn’t enjoy. The internet, more specifically SoundCloud, has been plagued by a shitload of beyond ellaborate, gaudy attempts at dubstep. But to my surprise, not only are there a handful of well-chosen, tasteful remixes, but styles of dubstep I haven’t got into myself. From a more downtempo vibe to a Pretty Lights hit, this is a diverse mix that you all better enjoy ’cause I wanna look good for these blogs ;) enjoy!
[audio:We-Dont-Eat-Remix.mp3|titles=We Don’t Eat (Adventure Club Remix)]Not only is this a fine dubstep remix of C&B Music Factory’s original, but Builder cut the hell out of Martha Wash’s vocals and made this a perfect track to fuck to or somethin’ like it on the dance floor.
I’m gonna try and find out how the hell he did this and what the lyrics actually come out to. Either way, this a refreshing remix over the overdone, overly coiled dubstep I see on SoundCloud every day.
[audio:Everybody-Fuck-Now.mp3|titles=Everybody Fuck Now (Builder Remix)]I’m a SoundCloud fanatic. Not only do they have a shitload of good DJ/producers, but the site is also designed to help you find the music you like (it’s the small things that matter). Yea, it’s still overcrowded with dubstep, remixes and mashups – I mean, look at all the choices here – but more & more types of artists are uploading their tracks everyday.
To pay tribute to my SoundCloud fanaticism and the lovely people who are to blame, I decided to throw up my favorites of 2010. Now, I’ve only been prowling around there for maybe six months, so don’t expect EVERY banger to be up on here (make sure to tell me which ones I missed). Also, if I’ve posted a SoundCloud track on here already, it won’t […]

First fell in love with Blackmill when he did a dubstep remix of Ellie Goulding‘s “Your Song”, originally by Elton John. Now he’s gone and done it again with his own “Miracle”. I never knew dubstep could be so melodic, but Blackmill sure as hell does it with both of these tunes.
[audio:Miracle.mp3|titles=Miracle]Goulding has got a damn sexy voice, as we all know, but pair it up with some top notch dubstep RMX’s and ya got trip-hop’s worst nightmare unleashed. When I first started searching for Ellie Goulding dubstep remixes, I didn’t think there would be this many well done, but there were, all with their own flavor.
Enjoy ’em as much as I did putting ’em together. If you have any other Goulding’s gone dubstep, make sure to hit ’em up in the comments below.
