Little Star Dweller’s “Catch A Killer” sounds like a retro-night club hit, “Roxbury-esque”, gone electro spaced-out. The raps are on key and the backups are top notch – something I’m finding increasingly important in electro/hip-hop nowadays (good backups). My only criticism would have to be those chipmunk chime-ins.. although I am warming up to ’em and maybe like ’em just a lil’.. just a little!
Either way, this trio of electro-nonesense is something with a lotta potential and possibly a forerunner in whatever style you wanna call this – kinda like that Smokey Robotic Superfuturistic sound.

This is why I got into dubstep.. or drumstep.. or whatever you wanna call it. It’s all about pushing what we perceive as music and bringing on new & never before heard sounds.
ill.Gates & Dov’s remix of Greg Rieve’s (T.O.B.) “Decoy” takes in heavy bass growls as its carrier, but touches on high atmospheric scores worthy of a sick soundtrack – maybe something for the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie

Some of my favorite songs tell a story, often a sad one. Eminem’s “Stan” comes to mind as well as Immortal Technique’s “Dance With The Devil” & “You Never Know.” The topics in these songs are not necessarily uplifting, but instead tell a relatable narrative. They have the power to draw us in and make us share the pain expressed in the song.

Here’s an unreleased Avicii track that I found floating around the blogosphere. I’ve never posted on Avicii before, but I’ve loved some of his shit in the past – hopefully, this gets to that point. I’m warming up to it, at least, but I’m still not feelin the vocals all that much… been bombarded with incredible female vocalists lately.

DeathStar consists of the two electro-talents, MartyParty & Minnesota. Their first hit, remixing Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep”, was featured on our Rompin Remixes of “Rolling in the Deep” compilation and started the mood off right with their Future Bass sound. Now the two have put out a new Ep, ULTRAVIOLET HALO, which brings a few classics forward and continues that futuristic shyt.

Turntable.fm is a live chat room where music lovers come to share and listen to music together. Rooms can be setup by anyone and consist of 1-5 DJ’s at a time. Topics for each room range from specific genres to music blogs that play just about everything.
The first type of room I got into was dubstep- although, I quickly realized that the crowd and music wasn’t for me. With Mashup-Germany’s first instrumental-only mashup, we get a sexay saxophone mixed in with Wolfgang Gartner’s “Illmerica” and Avicii’s “Street Dancer”. And, really, if you put a saxophone up against anything I’m gonna love it – I’m a sucka for the sax.
I do, however, wish the saxophone was distorted or meshed in electro-ly a bit more. At times, it just seems out of the song, like a saxophonist just played to the beat, which could/should appeal, however. Still, love the track and that saxyphone in it.

“Across the City” isn’t the usual parkour shoot – these dudes put a real grace to the movement. But team ’em up with some fine tunes from the Glitch Mob and this video really starts to step its game up. We all know that music makes movies, but in this the video really made the music.
The two tracks included are “Beyond Monday” by The Glitch Mob and The Glitch Mob’s remix of “Monday”, originally by Nalepa. I actually saw the music video for “Beyond Monday” (shown below) a while back, which does the song justice, but “Across the City” puts a whole new game to it.

You know I love me some of that Pacific Northwest shit, but put in a lil’ LA and spice it all off in Hawaii and I’m ready for some summer fresh hip-hop. Blue Scholars’ very own Geologic aka Geo aka Prometheus Brown teams up with LA native, Bambu, while on their University of Hawaii tour, to create a musically inspired project from the Aloha islands. Producers range from Sabzi (the other half of Blue Scholars) to Budo and many other talents.
