ProJect Aspect has reminded us once again how important this glitch bass, lazer heavy beat is for the future of electronic. Electro music is known for its experimentation – now most well known in dubstep – but it’s still far from the cusp of its progression. Glitch bass may never reach the mainstream like its not too distant dubstep relative, but it’s a clear progression in [electro] sound, whether you can handle it or not.
My favorite of Aspect’s may just be another remix, if you’re one who looks down on those kinds of things, but I love it for bringing back Ace of Base’s oh-so classic ‘All That She Wants’ in a whole new flava.

There’s not many other styles that get my heart beat pumpin like disco does. It’s just the happiest, feel good shit that anyone could ask for. And with my latest love child, 95 Royale’s remix of ‘Lonely Nights,’ this funky bass kicks better than ever with disco filters galore. Tell me this doesn’t lift you up right from the start. Tell me!

Shit, this is disco. I got this post wrapped up all nice & pretty because I wanted to spread out my nu-disco posts. And even though this may not fit the usual disco fold, it sure’s got that flavor. Traveler’s ‘Belafonte’ is a chilled down disco trip with samples that make the track (always do).

Someone recently emailed me urging me to stop posting so much disco. And as much as I’ve tried to pump the breaks on my nu-disco fascination (I know I’m obsessed), I gotta get posting when the postings good.
Solidisco spells it right with a duo that pumps out some quality disco with a heavy House influence. They’ve been doin work for just over a year now, but their latest tracks really show their blossoming future. I was going to post ’em all separately, but apparently that’s just too much disco for you folks.

Anyone who starts out with an intro likes this better bring in one heavy beat after it. Thankfully, “EEL” Gates mashes up a collection of sound bites to compliment the burley intro just right. From Eminem’s ‘My Name is” to Lil’ Wayne to Destiny’s Child, the theme is clearly how ill ill.Gates really is, both in name & in sound.

Brink’s ‘This is Halloween‘ & his Beetlejuice remix were my first good glimpse into dubstep’s favorite holiday, but I haven’t heard much more that combine the two so well. But finally just in time for Halloween I found Funk Hunters & SkiiTour’s ‘Candyman’ remix. Not only does it chill to the core, but the dubstep is solid brass to boot.

Bananas may call this the “version for those who like less singing,” and as much as that’s true, it’s more like the version that picks the best vocal parts in ‘Adorn.’ Miguel’s voice is undoubtedly powerful in more ways than one, but Sammy Bananas’ “Adlib Dub” highlights the best of it. He can really hit those notes at times.

Oh holy god this is wrong, and yet so on. There’s nothing I love more than beautiful vocals gettin dirty with the wordage and Cry Wolf gets real dirty with David Banner’s ‘Play.’ How the hell did Banner ever get away with this shit anyway

I first heard Cris Cab on ‘One Thing,’ a collaboration of his with Pharrell Williams. I don’t know how Cab pulls off this reggae pop so well, but even my soulful ways can get into the pop slop for kids like Cris.
In his cover of Foster the People’s infamous ‘Pumped Up Kicks,’ Cab twists it well with that feel good jam style of his. If anything, it’s a pretty damn good reggae cover for a white boy from Miami.

This electro distortion of vocals displayed in ‘Your Drums, Your Love’ is sure to be the next auto tune craze, but I’m lovin the hell out of it for now. And the nice thing with this compared to other distortionists is that Reid (producer) doesn’t mess with Aluna’s fiine vocals, but leaves the chopping & skewing for the chorus. As for Aluna, I’m still on the fence with a few British accents, but I warmed up to her’s quicker than most.
