The Hype Machine allows you to manually subscribe to the artists, blogs, friends and search terms of your choice. As helpful as it’s been to create a more customized playlist, it becomes increasingly harder to keep up with and subscribe to all the stuff you like. Therefore, Hypem should start building an automated recommendation system to do the task for you. Before we can figure out what to recommend and how to display it on Hypem – which’ll be covered in a later post – we’ll need to find out where to pull the information from. Luckily, it’s right at the heart of The Hype Machine… literally, the […]
After Kanye hit up Facebook headquarters in July of last year with an a capella of “Mama’s Boyfriend”, we finally get to hear the track with full productions from, who’s rumored to be, Madlib or Q-tip (but who knows).
This is definitely a throwback to Kanye’s older sound and is probably the reason why it wasn’t on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Whatever whoever is sayin, it’s good to hear this style of Kanye pop up over his progression in music.
[audio:Mamas-Boyfriend.mp3|titles=Mama’s Boyfriend]Can’t believe how many tracks are weaved into this, but even so, it comes out sounding like one solid mashup. With a heavier bass, ominous tunes and even more experimental sounds than GAYNGS’ original, “Faded High”, BAHLER’s “Love Me” is one heavy mashup that doesn’t rely on pop vocals to make it a success – a success that it is.
[audio:Love-Me.mp3|titles=Love Me]In 1994, one of the best debut albums of all time, Illmatic, was dropped by Nasir Jones, aka Nas. World renowned producers DJ Premier, Q-Tip and Pete Rock all took turns in the studio making beats that have become anthems for most hip-hop lovers across the world.
Jason Powers, better known as Elzhi from hip-hop group Slum Village, decided to pay tribute to the legendary rapper’s first studio recorded album by referencing all the same beats and even some of the same lines, but over the stories and struggles of an emerging 21st-century artist […]
[audio:Lifes-A-Bitch.mp3|titles=Lifes A Bitch]Uzi Octopus is a side project from a long admired hip-hop band of mine, Restoring Poetry in Music (RPM). Not quite sure when the project’s gonna drop or really any more information about it – they really need to get their ass goin’ on the whole online marketing thang – but I know it just finished up, so expect a release date soon.
“Let It Fall Aside”, the first single to hit the ‘net, features RPM’s very own MC, Raw Poetic. I gotta imagine he’ll be on the entire album and, hopefully, P-Fritz will lend some backup vocals, as well (amazing voice).
Until the release, check out a few of RPM’s stuff and another side project gone legit duo, Panacea.
[audio:Let-It-Fall-Aside.mp3|titles=Let It Fall Aside (feat. Raw Poetic)]Always impressed by a talented beatboxer . . . but over a drum & bass beat Wow, what a combo. Stumbled across Warrior Music’s Soundcloud a few months back and was blown away by every track, “Chasing Sky” in particular (along with “Middle of the Night”, so be sure to check that one out too!)
I love dubstep, but (personally) always to a certain point – here, Warrior Music has a really nice balance of integrating dubstep/drum & bass/vocals within one another, which kind of lightens the heavy load. However, I do wish he used Ekko’s beatboxing a bit more here, but hey, at least he got the ball rolling on a new trend […]
[audio:Chasing-Sky.mp3|titles=Chasing Sky]We’re finally into PL 2011 with a downtempo remix/mashup that takes on Pretty Lights’ signature sounds and remixes three classic alternative rock tracks in – Radiohead’s “Everything in its Right Place”, Nirvana’s “All Apologies” & NIN’s “Closer”. It may not be as bang worthy as some of his others, but it’s nice to see a more relaxed, chilled out vibe coming in. As much as he can pop it off, PL has some real mind numbing downtempo work, including probably my most favorite of his, “Solamente“.
Hit us up with some artists you’d like to see Pretty Lights remix for 2011.
I really wanna see a good Hendrix remix.

Planned on doing this for some time, but never thought I had enough. Well, when I first started compiling I definitely didn’t – but after a lot of research on YouTube, SoundCloud & beyond, I’ve come up with nine solid dubstep remixes of that classic rock we’ve grown up on.
Two rock legends I wanted to find were Jimi Hendrix & ZZ Top, but unfortunately there weren’t any quality ones out there. If you know of any, or any other dubstep remixes I haven’t included here, hit it up in the comments below!
[audio:Money-Alchemist-Remix.mp3|titles=Money (The Alchemist Remix)]That WizardCud created a little hype tonight, premiering his first song from his highly anticipated rock-band with Dot Da Genius, 2 Be Continuum.
“Perfect is the Word” sets their first single off with an interesting twist. When I thought of Kid Cudi going rock, it put an image of Hendrix in my head (blame Erase Me) with a melodramatic rapper vibe at heart. But after listening to the track, it’s more like Hendrix’s LSD daze tripped into a shroomed out wallow.
Whatever kind of fucked up it is, Cudi’s new shit will grow on me soon enough – it always does.
