This week it was my turn to pick/host the Monday Mixer, in which a bunch of blogs get together and each submits a track based on that week’s theme. I decided to go with a “dubstep remix” theme because of my growing interest in dubstep, one I’m still trying to figure out myself.
When I picked the theme, I thought I was going to get a lot of submissions that, honestly, I wouldn’t enjoy. The internet, more specifically SoundCloud, has been plagued by a shitload of beyond ellaborate, gaudy attempts at dubstep. But to my surprise, not only are there a handful of well-chosen, tasteful remixes, but styles of dubstep I haven’t got into myself. From a more downtempo vibe to a Pretty Lights hit, this is a diverse mix that you all better enjoy ’cause I wanna look good for these blogs ;) enjoy!

What I like about Anarbor’s remix of “Cooler Than Me” really has nothing to do with Posner’s part at all – Slade Echeverria’s vocals are what really got me interested in this after a few listens. I really wasn’t feeling the rock vibe at first, but warmed up to it once I started paying attention to Slade’s vocals. It could’ve easily been just a rock cover, but the group throws in Posner’s vocals, giving it a nice touch.

There were quite a few to choose from, including one by Zeds Dead, but these two were by far my favorite.
Beautiful Confusion’s gets the gold star for this one. He blends those dreamy pop vocals from Blue Foundation’s original nicely into a dubstep tune out.

I’m not posting this shit” (that’s what I was hoping with this). But these god damn coyote munchers do it right every damn time… even with Katy Perry, no less. My only criticism with this “Teenage Dream” remix is its length – it could’ve been built up into one hell of a rager, but right when I get my chops wet it’s all over with.
One last thing, sack it up and come out with an EP already!

But I’m not here to talk about the film, as good as it was I gotta rep its well picked soundtrack.
The first track to catch my attention was Gangstarr’s “Moment of Truth”. I love when movies put in some quality hip-hop, and although there were some good tracks before this in the movie, Guru’s smooth vocals really brought me to attention – he’s got one real memorable voice. But one track, even more than Gangstarr’s, sealed the deal and made sure I featured the Lincoln Lawyer soundtrack.

It’s a fresh take that’s perfect for a nice warm/sunny day. My only criticism is its long intro, lasting for just around four minutes. However, the beat is still a chill & relaxing set up for Bread’s beautiful vocals.
Also had to point out how much it reminds me of something DJ Frane would sample. Make it about 5x trippier and it could (puff puff) pass.

Well, I’ll post it anyway – love me some 80’s synth-pop and Boy and Bear’s vocals are mixed in nicely. I guess this is another lesson in organizing my music/being more timely with my posts. I’ll learn some day…

I hit up the Smokobotic’s “Forever My Love” a few weeks back, thought it was a chill track, but it eventually fell into my never ending pile of music (<3). When I found out that Ms. Lohan tweeted a video of theirs, I thought- no shit. So I checked it out and it sounded familiar right away, soon after realizing it was the track I listened to […]
[audio:Forever-My-Love.mp3|titles=Forever My Love]With any remix, incorporating the original beat is usually a good thang. Deviate as much as you want, but keeping to what made the original so great will appeal to the fans most.
In Beef Theatre’s remix of “Testify”, the track is revVed up with an electro-dance vibe and crossed over with de la Rocha’s rock-preached rhymes – yet still keeps to the original beat, making it so damn easy to rock out to. Love this rock classic electroFIED!
[audio:Testify-Remix.mp3|titles=Testify (Beef Theatre Remix)]Going over this five part series, it’s pretty obvious that hip-hop was the kickstart into my fasciation with music. I had a lot of love and appreciation for classic rock back in the day, but never enough to do anything about it. Discovering music in the underground scene made me realize that not all good music gets promoted, and since my monetary support lacked, I thought I could help in another way.
I hope you enjoy each and every artist on here and make sure to support the ones you appreciate in any way possible. We are their future.
