The Oliver duo, consisting of U-Tern & Oligee, just did a remix of Mayer Hawthorne’s ‘Her Favorite Song’ and man is it on the funky side. Hawthorne has one of my favorite voices of this past decade, but Oliver takes his sound to my neck of the woods in music right now, electro funk.

She’s got a handful of my favorite disco, soul & funk producers remixing her right and I’ve been waiting far too long to present it to you. Now some of them have been so chopped & fucked with that it doesn’t even sound like Janet anymore, but I assure you it’s all in good taste. Guarantee you’ll find some gem to obsess over for sometime.

I thought I had lost it for good, but then the good graces of my ass found it. It’s got me giddy inside and I know ‘Blow Your Mind’ will do just that this year. What a song for the lady.

Well, Hall & Oates and Jurassic 5 might be my personal favorites to see, but I’m guessing Paul’s performance will still be my favorite in the end. Which brings up a huge predicament, Pretty Lights plays the same time as Paul. Paul does play earlier, but I couldn’t imagine leaving him to go see PL. If I could only get them to play together…
… also excited to see z Chili Peppers… and even more excited for the food.

Snakehips (love the name) however has graciously put some nu funk, electro-soul sauce into this Warm Water melody.

The name sounds like a gimmick, and like every other crave fame musician they pitched my SoundCloud inbox where all I needed it was in my dropbox (sorry, the name made me bring it up). But besides their dated marketing techniques, Follow Me has got a sound that I’m so into right now.
One of their latest singles, ‘Somethin’ Bout You,’ starts off like a dream with repitched vocals that now seem standard on this blog. Once the deep chords hit however, this new style of soul drops to vast new levels.

It may not help the situation, but Lamar can pull it off where no other can. I may not have listened to the original too much, but this Far Soldi edition streams right into my disco ear – which I recognize you all don’t have (but should!).

Running this blog for four years now has made me very skeptical of people’s motives and all I feel like people are doing is pitching me their friend’s music (or their own). But I do have some people I trust, especially with this one, my sister.
HAERTS shining star is without a doubt Nini Fabi who provides vocals for the group, which have a soft resemblance to Stevie Nicks — but I’m sure there’s a better comparison out there. The instrumentals support her well and sure gets you lost in the sound quickly. ‘All The Days’ is the favorite, but ‘Wings’ is a catch too.

It also doesn’t rely too heavily on vocals, but just the few stems sampled bring the needed high to this one – hits around two and half minutes in.

I recently read The Weeknd’s first interview and saw his Complex cover. Abel is one of three or so artists that I’ve ever reached out to for an interview – mind you, he wasn’t so big back then and at the time was a friend on Facebook (my only claim to fame). I may not have got the interview back then, but it’s inspiring to see an artist grow from nothing to someone so influential. Hopefully, it’s just begun for Abel.
I don’t know if MT. OSSA will rise to the status The Weeknd has, but ‘Love Jam’ is my jam right now. This psychedelic indie whatever you wanna call it puts such vivid images in my mind every time I hear it. But as similar as they feel every time, they’re ultimately always changing. Wonder what it’ll look like in 10 years.
