Paper Diamond · All We Do Is

Throw It In The Bag (Remix) - with Drake & Lil' Wayne vocals

Pushed play on this and damn. did. it. roll. This is my Paper Diamond tipping point – I’m in, I’m gonna be all up on every release of his. And now I truly see why Pretty Lights signed Alex B.

What makes this so goddamn grand is that heavy buzzing bass threaded through those vocals, oh, so well. I was a little skeptical of Drake/Lil’ Wayne being sampled, but I’m starting to understand I’m not a fan of their music, but I LOVE when they’re RMX’d.

Childish Gambino · Let Me Dope You (Knell Remix)

"Yes, I rap absurd. Got the game upset."

First thing I look for in a remix is if it’s better than the original. But I didn’t really even like Gambino’s original on this, so Knell didn’t have too much to overcome. Why I didn’t like the original wasn’t my usual reason, Gambino’s whiny rhymes (kinda adoring it right now), but more on the beat.

Well, Knell throws in some electro tripepd-out strums up against Gambino’s well played wordage for this remix. Also gotta mention the YoungBloodZ drop, nice touch Knell.

DJ Soo – The Message (Grandmaster Flash Remix)

Another classic tune electrofied for the future

Some of you may dig this for the nostalgic bring back of Grandmaster Flash’s classic anthem. This, however, brought me to attention when I heard Latyrx‘s “Lady Don’t Tek No, cut right from the start.

“Lady Don’t Tek No” brings me back to my first years in college. I may have been a little late on The Bay’s hip-hop scene, but Latyrx was one of my main introductions and I’ve been a big supporter ever since – just saw they finished a new track (album)

As far as what Soo brings […]

Builder · Everybody Fuck Now (Remix)

Let the fucking take control

Not only is this a fine dubstep remix of C&B Music Factory’s original, but Builder cut the hell out of Martha Wash’s vocals and made this a perfect track to fuck to or somethin’ like it on the dance floor.

I’m gonna try and find out how the hell he did this and what the lyrics actually come out to. Either way, this a refreshing remix over the overdone, overly coiled dubstep I see on SoundCloud every day.

Funkanomics · Jucachavezxx

I think I'm becoming a Funkangelist

With Funkanomics’ funked out edit, “Melvin“, featuring Timbaland and now their “Jucachavezxx”, I’m becoming a real fan of these funkadelic mashup madmen.

Let’s see if we can spot all the samples on here. I’ll start it off with an easy one, Doobie Brother’s “Black Water” – though, I think it’s a cover, hmmm…

Pretty Lights Reconfigures Tron Legacy Track

As well as a few other powerhouse cuts

Daft Punk’s already electro-happy Tron Legacy soundtrack is being remixed by some of the top players in today’s electronic scene. With the likes of The Glitch Mob, Paul Oakenfold, Moby, The Crystal Method and, of course, Pretty Lights, this should put a new spark to this Legacy.

I was a little disappointed in some of the more popular cuts, but Pretty Lights, Oakenfold and Teddybears stood out even above their originals. I may be featuring Pretty Lights on this ’cause I gotta super-big crush on him – and he does his portion well (when does he not) – but Oakenfold & Teddybears suprised me with rich vibes & a powerhouse bass that may even top PL… well, at least competes with it.

Music that Got Me Blogging About Music (Part 2)

All along the West Coast (minus The Bay)

In the second installment in our “Music that Got Me Blogging About Music” series (first), we’re going to be covering most of the West Coast. The only part we’re not is The Bay Area, which’ll be covered in Part 4 (out of 5). In Part 2, however, we’ll be going from the Pacific Northwest all the way down to SoCal.

The SoCal picks you may know, if you know your West Coast hip-hop, but my Pacific Northwest choices are some of my most prized. Take a look at ’em and tell me what you know, I bet you’ll find something you’ve never heard before – and if you don’t, hit me up, I may have a blogging gig for ya.

SoundCloud Favorites from 2010

Comprised mostly of Remixes, Mashups & Dubstep

I’m a SoundCloud fanatic. Not only do they have a shitload of good DJ/producers, but the site is also designed to help you find the music you like (it’s the small things that matter). Yea, it’s still overcrowded with dubstep, remixes and mashups – I mean, look at all the choices here – but more & more types of artists are uploading their tracks everyday.

To pay tribute to my SoundCloud fanaticism and the lovely people who are to blame, I decided to throw up my favorites of 2010. Now, I’ve only been prowling around there for maybe six months, so don’t expect EVERY banger to be up on here (make sure to tell me which ones I missed). Also, if I’ve posted a SoundCloud track on here already, it won’t […]

Basic Physics – Saxobeat Swagger

Chris Brown & Alexandra Stan Mashup

Basic Physics straight up dropped some swag lines from Chris Brown on Alexandra Stan’s “Mr. Saxobeat”. As much I’d love to have seen this cut up and altered a little more, they really found a perfect match made for the Salsa Club (or anything Spring Break) – and isn’t that why we love mashup artists so much

Also, make sure to check out Basic Physics mashup of Lil’ Wayne & Pretty Lights, one of my favorites of all time.

Blackmill · “Miracle”

Who would of thought dubstep could be so relaxing?

First fell in love with Blackmill when he did a dubstep remix of Ellie Goulding‘s “Your Song”, originally by Elton John. Now he’s gone and done it again with his own “Miracle”. I never knew dubstep could be so melodic, but Blackmill sure as hell does it with both of these tunes.
