Half way through this damn post I find out that LooseL!ps already posted it like centuries ago. I thought I was gonna be the hip/cool cat that got this out there :(
Well, I’ll post it anyway – love me some 80’s synth-pop and Boy and Bear’s vocals are mixed in nicely. I guess this is another lesson in organizing my music/being more timely with my posts. I’ll learn some day…
[audio:Mexican-Mavis-Remix.mp3|titles=Mexican Mavis (Snapdragons Remix)]Smokey Robotic & Lindsay Lohan taught me an important lesson in listening to music – keep track of your shit!
I hit up the Smokobotic’s “Forever My Love” a few weeks back, thought it was a chill track, but it eventually fell into my never ending pile of music (<3). When I found out that Ms. Lohan tweeted a video of theirs, I thought- no shit. So I checked it out and it sounded familiar right away, soon after realizing it was the track I listened to […]
[audio:Forever-My-Love.mp3|titles=Forever My Love]With any remix, incorporating the original beat is usually a good thang. Deviate as much as you want, but keeping to what made the original so great will appeal to the fans most.
In Beef Theatre’s remix of “Testify”, the track is revVed up with an electro-dance vibe and crossed over with de la Rocha’s rock-preached rhymes – yet still keeps to the original beat, making it so damn easy to rock out to. Love this rock classic electroFIED!

Daft Beatles (Jonas C) put this up when he posted his demo version of “A Day in the Wonderwall” – an Oasis // Beatles mashup – and I couldn’t agree with the quote more. Lennon’s voice goes perfectly with this tune and mixes well with Liam Gallagher’s. But as much as I enjoyed it, the track still has some kinks to work out […]
[audio:Day-in-Wonderwall.mp3|titles=A Day in the Wonderwall (The Beatles // Oasis Mashup)]A few months back I went to First Avenue’s annual John Lennon tribute in Minneapolis. It was a good night despite the shit acoustics at First Ave, but one thing I forgot to do was pick up their album, the Minnesota Beatle Project: Vol. 2. Well, I had completely forgotten about it until I saw the official video of Cory Chisel’s cover of “Fixing A Hole”, one of the sixteen tracks on the album.
Cory Chisel and The Wandering Sons covered this classic with class. Cory’s eerie, coolheaded echoes backed by some tripped out instrumentals set the stage for this dark & disturbing video. The original “Fixing a Hole” was one of my favorite from The Beatles and these guys really give it a refreshing […]
[audio:Fixing-A-Hole-Cover.mp3,Dear-Boy-Cover.mp3|titles=Fixing a Hole (Cover),Dear Boy (Cover)]As far as reports go, Damon Albarn & Jamie Hewlett, creators of Gorillaz, were bickering about each other’s dedication to the band. Jamie complained about Damon’s involvement with other projects and Damon about Jamie’s “party lifestyle”. Whatever the reasons may be, Gorillaz are on an extened vacation for now (euphemisms always help ease the pain). As saddened as I was when I heard the news, I tried to look at what they’ve given us.
Not only have the two created three groundbreaking albums, along with many side projects, they’ve also ushered in a new genre/sub-genre/style (whatever you wanna call it). I haven’t been the biggest Alt Rock fan over the past years, but Gorillaz and the few groups like them have helped me find a place to start in the clusterfuck of a sub-genre.
To honor my favorite cartoon band, here’s a mini memorial featuring a few of my favorites from each of their albums. Hit me up with your Gorillaz favorites in the comments below.
Caught this video in a Starfucker post and damn does it make “Hungry Ghost” that much better. Props to Flooded Films for this one.
I’ve been listening to Starfucker’s upcoming album, Reptilians, for a few weeks now. There are a grip of tracks that are quite becoming, but like all Starfucker music, it takes some time to get use to. As progressive or experimental as you’d call it, their music has a kind of habituation curve. But once you get familiar with the new sound, you realize the ingenuity in their instrumentals and the beauty in their entangled vocals. There’s no doubt I’m a Starfucker fanatic and Reptilians is slowly becoming another addiction.
Lookout for a slightly more thoughtful look on Reptilians sometime soon.
[audio:Hungry-Ghost.mp3|titles=Hungry Ghost]Had the original “Rock the Casbah” as my wake up alarm for a long ass time, but got real sick of it after a while. Always thought it would be a good track to remix, though.
Well, until you see DJ Zmann makin’ waves, check out Funkagenda’s remix of The Clash’s original, “Rock the Chashbah” – probably better than I could ever do anyway.
[audio:Rock-The-Casbah.mp3|titles=Rock the Casbah (Funkagenda Remix)]I first heard the live version of “You Can Run” from This Bonus Track a couple days back and just picked this one up today. The difference between the two is mostly in quality, but Cudi’s contribution also changes up.
In this version, Cudi lays a bit more polished lines down and not to discredit Greenberg, but makes the track. I’ve seen the sentimental side of Cudi before, but I never knew that acoustics would flow so well with his rhymes […]
[audio:You-Can-Run.mp3|titles=You Can Run]There may have been a lot of criticism on the last song I posted of DOSVEC’s – even though it reached #1 on The Hype Machine – but his ability to enthrall me in contemporary rock & R&B vocalists through electro-heavy beats is sincerely impressive.
Check out DOSVEC’s mashup of Dave Darell’s “Children” & One Republic’s “Apologize”. I think he may have even one-upped Timbaland in how to handle One Republic’s original, but that may be saying a little too much just yet […]
