While everyone else is remixing Lil’ Wayne or Ellie Goulding, Party Ben takes to the underground and reignites my love for this funkman from the Bay, Lyrics Born. Party Ben’s remix of “Coulda Woulda Shoulda” made me realize, above all else, how catchy this shit is. The original was a little too pop for me, and although this still has it’s fair share, Party Ben mixes in some heavy electro grooves that get those asses shakin’.

This time round they mashup Ellie Goulding’s “Lights” & Dave Darell’s “Children”. I still gotta give first dibs to DOSVEC for mashing up “Children” with One Republic’s “Apologize”, but this still hits very, very hard
[audio:Children-Lights.mp3|titles=Children of the Lights]I’ve heard a couple of these long before this list, but once I saw the video of Tom Petty & Prince cover “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”, I knew there had to be a ton more good covers of this song. Well, there were about double the amount that’s posted on this list, but I thought I’d narrow it down – that said […]

India Arie & Yo-Yo Ma)]You already knew that Smokey Robotic made Superfuturistic music but did you know their weapon arsenal also included avocado grenades and a banana bazooka. Avocado grenades Banana bazooka Sounds deliciously dangerous. These weapons of mass destruction are featured in Smokey’s latest video for “Bazooka” off their upcoming album, The Shark & The Helicopter, due out this coming Thursday […]

Minnesota’s “drops” may have been better executed than Jakwob’s, but it’s still nothing compared to the top two on the list. Even worse, his distortion of Ellie’s voice is unneeded and not properly pulled off.
However, he still brings a heavy dose of dubstep for the dubstep queen, Ellie Goulding. I especially loved his use of higher pitched tones […]

The Artist/Title were ‘unknown’ at the time, so while trying to figure it out, it started to remind me of something Kid Cudi‘s new rock project would sound like… with a bit more pop twist to it. Well, Cudi’s lyrics eventually chimed in and I realized he was featured on the track.
At first, the song felt a bit too poppy, but after a few listens it started to grow on me and become one catchy tune in my head. The chorus was especially catchy, which still reminds me of the lead singer of 311, Nick […]

Can’t wait to see her in Minneapolis this August… since she cancelled last time :(
[audio:Starry-Eyed-Penguin-Remix.mp3|titles=Starry Eyed (Penguin Prison Remix)]I’m either a real early adopter or a very late bloomer when it comes to music, or really anything, and I definitely matured into Bon Iver a little later than half the ‘net. My first taste of the group was when listening to GAYNGS‘ debut album, Relayted. I was introduced to it all by Ryan Olson, the dude who put it all together, and had already heard of SOLID GOLD, but despite their internet fandom I wasn’t all that keen to them. And I must admit it took me a while to understand Bon Iver’s folksy vibe, it’s really not one I’m all too familiar with. But once I did, I can understand why half the internet is obsessed with these Indie Folk fellows […]
[audio:Calgary.mp3|titles=Calgary]I initially chalked this off as just another Mike Posner remix and didn’t think much of it. Coming back to it I realize the little things that make it something worth checking out.
What I like about Anarbor’s remix of “Cooler Than Me” really has nothing to do with Posner’s part at all – Slade Echeverria’s vocals are what really got me interested in this after a few listens. I really wasn’t feeling the rock vibe at first, but warmed up to it once I started paying attention to Slade’s vocals. It could’ve easily been just a rock cover, but the group throws in Posner’s vocals, giving it a nice touch.
[audio:Cooler-Than-Me-Remix.mp3|titles=Cooler Than Me (Anarbor Rock Remix)]Appo has redone this classic to a newage/downtempo vibe. It’s a fresh take that’s perfect for a nice warm/sunny day. My only criticism is its long intro, lasting for just around four minutes. However, the beat is still a chill & relaxing set up for Bread’s beautiful vocals.
Also had to point out how much it reminds me of something DJ Frane would sample. Make it about 5x trippier and it could (puff puff) pass.
