RAC · Hollywood (feat. Penguin Prison)

What a sweet pairing these two are...

Fuck me, this is not a duo I ever saw collaborating, but now that they did, makes total fuckin’ sense. With Chris Glover’s pop lovin’ vocals & RAC’s way of mixing disco, pop & electro together, this motherfuckin’ music’s gonna go FAR. Do I smell a legit album collab comin’ It better at least be on the back burner for now!

… sorry for all the swearing, I just too damn excited! :D

Theophilus London · All Around The World

Characterizing the hip-hop scene better than ever

Ya know, when I covered Theophilus London in Minneapolis, I appreciated a few tracks of his, but didn’t follow him regularly. However, since his show I’ve caught too many quality tracks from this dude. I can’t tell you how many rappers send their music to me daily and 99% lack what London excels in, character/personality/whatever you wanna call it.

“All Around The World” sports a burly, bass driven beat with this MC’s character expressed as distinct as ever. But Theophilus London is more than just a healthy character in the hip-hop scene, he packs wordplay & beats that few MC’s can manage to muster UP.

Choir of Young Believers · Hollow Talk (Schories Edit)

An eight minute relaxer that sounds too damn familiar

Alright people, what song does this dude’s voice remind you of It’s definitely a popular one from the early 2000’s that was featured in a movie like Garden State, or maybe it was actually in Garden State. Please let me know if you have any ideas! But moving on from my obsession in figuring that one out…

Oliver Schories’ edit of ‘Hollow Talk’ fits my melancholic mood quite well today. The song is simple, yet the vocals carry alotta weight. They remind me of that stereotypical, turn of the century, “sedated look at life” type music … seen in movies like Garden State, however, the instrumentals are as fresh & up to date as ever.

Check out this 8-minute meditation and let me know what it reminds you of… this is killin’ me.

Fun. · We Are Young (Party Ben & MyKill Remix)

A fun-lovin time mixed up in a 70's disco kinda way

Party Ben teams up with MyKill to remix Fun.’s hit “We Are Young,” which has that disco flavor I love hearin from PB… and I guess now MK. But what really gets me is at that glorious chorus provided by Fun… hits new heights in this remix.

Snoop Dogg · Breathe It In

Gettin super strange with the good ol' ode to the kush

Snoop Dogg’s Stoner’s EP just got released, and although I haven’t listened to the whole EP, I did listen to 1 track. “Breathe It In” may just be the usual ode to the kush from Snoop, but that beat is sure as hell new to the Doggg.

Lazer Crunk is an odd set of electro sounds gon estranged, but who knows if ‘Breathe It In’ could be classified under it, these subgenres are killing me. Whatever it may be, Snoop rolls around in it so smooooothly.

Skratch Bastid · Let It Stay Fly (Mashup)

Three Six Mafia, Young Buck, 8 Ball & MJG vs Dazz Band

Every time I say Skratch Bastid, it’s in the voice of Kyle’s [very] jewish cousin from South Park. But other than that pointless side note, Skatch Bastid does right to the mashup game ever time by taking samples from early soul music and mashing it up with the more recent soul [hip-hop].

In this romp around, Skratch Bastid takes on Three 6 Mafia vs that soulful blend by Dazz Band. His music always takes a few rounds in to get use to, but once you catch on… you caught ;) ENjoy

Luminaire · Missing You

Holy hell, this is damn glorious!

I don’t know where Luminaire gets vocals like these, but I feel damn near honored to listen to ’em. Let’s just say if they’re in-house, I’ll go out and make a freakin’ label centered right around it (I’ll do it!).

Like my previous love of theirs, “Missing You” captures the energy of the 70’s and hurls it right in my millennium riddled ears. But the best part is that catchy 4-line chorus – if there were any more words, it would do this song injustice.

DJ Ellipsis · The Fever (Mashup)

Fukkk Off vs Sarah Vaughan vs Maroon 5 vs Black Eyed Peas

One of my top mashers is on it again with a bass buzzin round with a few popstars and one classic mixed & mashed in. What separates Ellipsis from the mass of mashers is his unconventional samples and his talent in chopping ’em all up, like a boss. Most who’d try to pull this off wouldn’t cut it like Ellipsis, shit just flows oh so well.

Tasha the Amazon · Let It Go (prod. Bass & Bakery)

"You a bad girl and your friends bad too, oo. We got the swag, so she drippin’ swagoo"

This is one bad bitch from Toronto, but let’s hope her persona doesn’t get the best of her. I’ve seen too many talents care more about how they come off than what they’re pushing out musically and Tasha seems like the stereotypical candidate.

But until that happens, Tasha the Amazon brings us one chill flow that most female MC’s can’t quite pull off. Her latest track, “Let It Go,” sports production from Bass & Bakery, which I believe she is a part of, but either way, she twirls that sassy voice around it like a charm.

Toronto is a clear hotspot for up-n-coming artists and Tasha, supported by the right people, is destined to be a crowd pusher in that community.

The M Machine ·· Metropolis Pt. 1

Yeeeeeeeeeessss, it's finally here!

The M Machine’s new album (or half of an album), Metropolis Pt. 1, has been my most anticipated of the year so far. We finally get to hear what the group is all about. I wouldn’t know how to describe the music at first listen – it’s a mix of electro, rock, synth-pop, industrial, and a unique brand of hushed vocals with brooding synths.

If you had asked me yesterday who my favorite founding member of OWSLA was (next to Skrilly), I would’ve said Porter Robinson. Not so anymore. I’ve only included my favorite track, ‘Immigrants,’ from the first half of the album here. If you like what you hear, please go buy Metropolis Pt. 1, so that these guys can continue making good music.
