Gift of Gab · Protocol (feat. Samantha Kravitz)

Help me find up-n-coming MC's who can flow like this!

I actually need some help from anyone who’s listening out there (especially if you’re from The Bay), I need some NEW Bay Area/West Coast hip-hop. Well, really any smooth flowing MC. I’ve been lacking on hip-hop lately and can’t seem to find anything new I like. But good thing, Gift of Gab is bring on a new album. He’s actually one of the reasons I started this blog.

In the lead track off his upcoming album, The Next Logical Progression, “Protocol” feature one sexy little lady with some spice, Samantha Kravitz. She leads it off for Gift to throw in those classic lines of his. Seriously, what MC nowadays can flow like this?? I’d really like to know (I know they’re out there).

Yelawolf · Growin’ Up in the Gutter (Remix)

Kill The Noise puts some dirty-nasty to these Yela rhymes.

I was just listening to a dubstep remix of Queen and bitching about how dirty drops just don’t work for a lot of remixes (Queen being at the top of the list). But where there’s a lot that don’t work, there are some that do.

In Kill The Noise’s remix of “Growin Up in the Gutter,” Yelawolf’s raps fit just so fuckin nicely with dirty, dirtay drops. Rap is one of the few places dubstep can really spread its devilish wings and get dirty with it.

K-Def · Night Owls

featuring the smooooth MC, Raw Poetic

Raw P is one of the most underrated rappers. I’ve followed him for some time and he always impresses, always. He’s usually lending those smooooth raps to Panacea or RPM, but it’s nice to hear him on a fresh beat. I haven’t heard of K-Def much lately, but those tunes are right up Raw P’s alley.

The Crystal Method · Make Some Noise (Put ‘em Up)

featuring Yelawolf sounding a hell of a lot like Zack de la Rocha

The Crystal Method got a chance to collaborate with Yelawolf for the movie Reel Steal. I was excited to see the movie before, now I can’t wait to hear the full soundtrack, as well. In the duo’s collab song, “Make Some Noise (Put ‘em Up),” Yela sounds a hell of a lot like Zack de la Rock from Rage Against the Machine and The Crystal Method beat isn’t far off either. Whatever it is, I’m lovin em together. Dudes should definitely think about a more legit collab in the future.

Public Enemy · SHUT EM DOWN (Bobby C Remix)

Ghetto Funk is bringin Hip-Hop to its next level

I can rave and rant about how well this Ghetto Funk hits, but I think I’ve set it enough, especially with hip-hop! This time Bobby C “Shuts em Down” with Public Enemy in one of his best ghetto funk remixes, yet. DAMN, does this shit BUMP! (sorry just one more time)

Drake · It’s Never Over (Academy Productions Remix)

Give a Young Money man a decent beat and it's one smoooooth ride

Once again I find myself posting up Drake because of a remix. I don’t know what’s up with the Young Money millionaires, but put an alternative beat to ‘em and all of a sudden I’m feelin it.

The Academy Productions’ remix of “Overdose on Life” by Drake, is a pleasant jazzed-out tune that settles that enthusiastic Drake voice down. Sometimes the lyrics still bring me back to the original (nogood beat), but overall it’s a fresh new take that puts me on ride for a few.

Common · Raw

I'm still a Believer.

Now this is more like it. Had my qualms with Common’s last leak, “The Believer,” really, just because I have such high expectations for him. But now I think it’s just “Raw” is more of the flavor I love from Common and really has nothing to do with the actual quality in music. Whether or not I like “The Believer,” I sure have faith in what Common’s all about.
