There’s nothing better than a sax leading a classic De La Soul number. Mix it with Stevie’s “Sign, Sealed, Delivered” & a little Beastie Boys and this is mashup perfection for that funkified crowd. Learn it, love it, get more of it.
Also, if ya know of anything else sampled here hit it up in the comments below. And for some reason that “Sign, Sealed, Delivered” beat reminds me of a Beatle’s song. hmm…
In an interview last night on The Current, Slug of Atmosphere introduced the first single off his upcoming album, The Family Sign. In the interview, Slug talks about the emergence of ‘rap bands’, highlighting The Roots, explaining they’re more than just the everyday jam bands we see popping up today.
He also goes into how Atmosphere is becoming a jam band with two instrumentalists, a guitarist & keyboardist, who were added around six years ago. It’s quiter coincidental calling Atmosphere a jam bad when their newest single, “Just For Show”, sounds a hell of a lot like one – with Slugs rhymes over top.
Can’t wait to hear what’s to come in The Family Sign, which’ll be out April 12!
Was going to volunteer this afternoon at Rock The Cradle – a ROCK FEST for kids – but I’m buried in about 17 inches of snow and rising. So here’s to the little tikes that may be stuck at home like me – though, I don’t know if they’ll appreciate it as much as us 80’s kids.
JPOD the Beat Chef’s little EP of a thing, covers a good portion of the 80’s shows I grew up with, though there’s many more I wish I could see wobbled up like these. I can only imagine wompin’ around to these in the 80’s, but damn it would’ve been a fun time!/kinda […]
Never been much a fan of Khalifa, but now I see his appeal. The Five One take his original lyrics from “Never Been” and remix it to one laid back beat. But what makes this track is their use of Khalifa’s lyrics – chilled and served smooooth.
“They follow me everywhere my plane go”
I’m a little late on this Vday gift from Grieves & Budo, my own eat up all the time I had on the 14th, but I had to give ’em due credit.
“Pack It Up” is a soulful take on the duds we face on our quest for that “paper heart”. Check out the vid, it’s a good visual of Grieve’s lament.
Their LP, Together/Apart, should be dropping sometime this summer.
Bassnectar keeps impressing with all these dubstep remixes. I haven’t seen many dustep artists continually pull it off without trying to over embellish an already showy art.
This time he takes another classic, “Walk Like an Egyptian”, and dubsteps it to a modern vibe. It was done back sometime in ’03, but is still as fresh as ever.
Here’s a collection of my favorite love songs. The first four were really the driving force to make this list, but every one of ’em is sexy as hell. The list ranges from contemporary R&B to classic rock to trip-hop instrumentals and everything in-between. Although, all of them won’t be appreciated by everyone, I guarantee you’ll each find a gem of your own.
If I get enough response out of this, I’ll make up more of these love makin’ lists – there were many I couldn’t include due to lack of time. So tell me your favorites and what you want to be included on the next list, so we can find more love makin music together.
Lastly, this may not be a comprehensive list, but forget about what it doesn’t have and get into what it does. Thanks to all who helped with this!
Syfy’s Being Human just threw me for a curve. When Solid Gold‘s “Who You Gonna Run to” played on their fourth episode, “Wouldn’t It Be Nice (If We Were Human)”, I remember thinking to myself, no fucking way.
I’ve been a BIG Solid Gold fan for the past year now and I couldn’t have been more happy for them. I love when films & shows throw in some good music and Solid Gold is […]
Saw this on TV and instantly knew I’d heard this before. About one or two seconds later I knew it was Atmosphere. Googled “Be The Match Shaq commercial” and found out this was “Puppets” – never been good with names.
Enjoy and make sure to join the bone marrow registry.
As far as reports go, Damon Albarn & Jamie Hewlett, creators of Gorillaz, were bickering about each other’s dedication to the band. Jamie complained about Damon’s involvement with other projects and Damon about Jamie’s “party lifestyle”. Whatever the reasons may be, Gorillaz are on an extened vacation for now (euphemisms always help ease the pain). As saddened as I was when I heard the news, I tried to look at what they’ve given us.
Not only have the two created three groundbreaking albums, along with many side projects, they’ve also ushered in a new genre/sub-genre/style (whatever you wanna call it). I haven’t been the biggest Alt Rock fan over the past years, but Gorillaz and the few groups like them have helped me find a place to start in the clusterfuck of a sub-genre.
To honor my favorite cartoon band, here’s a mini memorial featuring a few of my favorites from each of their albums. Hit me up with your Gorillaz favorites in the comments below.
