Notixx : 8-bit Bass Music Destruction

Drumstep for the high energy EDM fans

Today we have some heavy melodic bass music for your ears. Now I know that not everybody loves their electronic tumes filthy and destructive, I assure you that the boys from Notixx have a keen sense for melody and a knack for making the most begrimed beats sound so fresh and so clean. With a soundcloud full of free tunes and a affection for making some seriously dirty music in several different styles, Notixx is definitely worth checking out […]

Coyote Kisses · Jedi Theme (Star Wars Remix)

Doin justice to John Williams' epic Star Wars score

This is what I love so much about these carpet munchers! They don’t have to rely on remixes to take em to the top, but when they do, it’s fresh as fuck. No Lil Wayne, Ludacris, or pop hip-hop remixes here, the Coyotes go for glory in an all out remix of the epic Star Wars theme.

It’s no easy task remixing a classic like this, but instead of making it a HELLA grimey bass driven beat with drops galore, the two take in everything I love about glitch, dubstep and whatever the hell else and do justice to the force… but what I love most, it gets better and better as it goes along, right up to the end!

Best Music of 2011 (Part 5) : Electronica

with a dash of dubstep sprinkled on because we love that bass face

Other than the Mixes & Mashes, 2011 was the year of Electro Music here on SNG. It all started out through our transition with hip-hop. I remember thinking to myself that we needed more uptempo, dance type music. A year later and the majority of the site is just that. As much as we need to hop back on the hip-hop wagon, this electro ride has been one of our favorites!

Yelawolf · Growin’ Up in the Gutter (Remix)

Kill The Noise puts some dirty-nasty to these Yela rhymes.

I was just listening to a dubstep remix of Queen and bitching about how dirty drops just don’t work for a lot of remixes (Queen being at the top of the list). But where there’s a lot that don’t work, there are some that do.

In Kill The Noise’s remix of “Growin Up in the Gutter,” Yelawolf’s raps fit just so fuckin nicely with dirty, dirtay drops. Rap is one of the few places dubstep can really spread its devilish wings and get dirty with it.

Passion Pit · Sleepyhead (Abstrack Remix)

A taste of the more tranquil side of dubstep.

I have to be totally honest with errbody. It’s not often that I find remixes that I like. I almost literally rip my hair out when I hear one – in fact, my roommate has often scolded me for yelling at my speakers – “THOSE LYRICS DON’T GO THERE. THEY DON’T EVEN FIT.”

But I couldn’t resist enjoying this one. It’s probably just because Passion Pit’s the shit, but still […]

JAYBeatz · Dirty Diana (Mashup)

featuring The Weeknd & Michael Jackson

Any Weeknd mixer/masher should be all over this. Combining an artist with potential that hasn’t been seen since MJ, as well as the legend himself, makes for one dirty mashup.

JAYBeatz is the first on deck with a “Dirty Diana” collision that carries the two well, but doesn’t live up to what I’d think combining these two would bring. At times, I can barely tell MJ from The Weeknd, JAYBeatz plays off the two nicely, but also doesn’t bring anything spine-tingling to the mix, like his Weeknd/Drake mash. Still like the direction and the ideas he’s bringing, can’t wait for more.

K-Def · Night Owls

featuring the smooooth MC, Raw Poetic

Raw P is one of the most underrated rappers. I’ve followed him for some time and he always impresses, always. He’s usually lending those smooooth raps to Panacea or RPM, but it’s nice to hear him on a fresh beat. I haven’t heard of K-Def much lately, but those tunes are right up Raw P’s alley.

Lou Rawls · Let Me Be Good to You (Disco Tech Edit)

Hunker on down with your sexier half and let this be good to you both.

Lou Rawls is one sexy beast and Disco Tech takes full advantage. Check out a fine edit of “Let Me Be Good to You” for the cozy season and hunker on down with your better half.

fuckmylife aka Deadmau5 · Xmas Stuff

featuring those beaut.a.ful Kaskade vocals from "I Remember"

A nice little Xmas treat from fuckmylife aka Joel Zimmerman aka Deadmau5. I like how these EDM stars are getting more into downtempo and Joel’s retake of “I Remember” relaxes it even more with a simple, light-hearted beat. Who’s up for an album like this

Best Music of 2011 (Part 4) : MASHUPS

Ten creative mashups with style and finesse

I categorize mashups in two ways. First is the “supermash,” where you take a grip of samples and lace em all together. The other is just two or so tracks twisted into each other to make one. Either way, it’s to bring vocalists into a new style & genre.

So in this Best Mashups of 2011, we’ve got about five of each. With styles ranging from rap to nu-disco, the only thing consistent in this mix is the amount of soul… basically, they’re not inspired by Glee ;)
