One of my favorite supa mashas is back at it again. His “Bad Mama Jama Mania” was one of my favorite mashups of 2011 and this is slowly becoming a favorite of 2012.
In his “Tight Stripes” mashup, 8corp takes even more samples than last time and aligns ’em to one well formed, free flowing mashup. This is why I love super mashups so much, they take a little of a lot and compile it into something completely new (well, maybe not completely).

Damn, do I miss that downtempo melodicness. I’ve been too wrapped up in heavy bass drops & progressive house highs to sit back & tune out to the calmer beats.
Skai Nine’s “Crystalize” may not be music to fall asleep to, but it’s one reflective tune, in the least. Especially love the synth melody on this, it’s as beautiful as it is reminiscing.

Paper Diamond hops on as another Weeknd remixer and remakes “Same Old Song” with finely cut bass that rolls over those signature Weeknd vocals. Wasn’t all that much of a fan of the original, but Paper Diamond throws in that mind-numbing bass that gets me every.damn.time.

This sure as hell doesn’t need those funny as rhymers who go by the Flight of the Conchords, but it sure makes for good comic relief. Spoonhead’s glitched-out remix of “Hiphoppotamus vs. Rhymenocerous” is one heeavvvvvvy lazer-crunk beat with supporting vocals from Jermaine & Bret.

The Remix Artists Collective (RAC) are by no means new to the remix scene. They have been an anomaly for the past few years, dropping consistently solid mixes to already well-known and loved songs. However, they have flown pretty under the radar as far as blogs go, and credit is finally due. Where 2011 was a year of glitchy beats, neon and heavy bass drops, I foresee 2012 as a year fueled by minimalism, the all-powerful synth… and hopefully – for my skin-tone’s sake – less neon and more pastels.
In the past few months, RAC has dropped some arguably better-than-original remixes. In my current favorite, “Love U More” by Sunday Girl, they did so by removing the unnecessarily heady house music-feel and cranking up the classic snyth-pop vibe, which gives the song a much less “epic” and more endearing, simple feel.
