I went to Treasure Island Music Festival this year to see two performers. I’ve been a fan of Viceroy’s productions since 2012 and was amazed by deadmau5’s live “4D projection” in London around the same time. Unfortunately my expectations were high, which usually doesn’t lead to good things.
A few days before the festival I got a promo email from deadmau5’s team giving us pointers on what we should cover with his TI set. The one thing that caught my eye was letting us know that
deadmau5 is not a DJ. He is and should be referred to as an electronic musician or electronic music performer.
Deadmau5 in’t a DJ. Sure, technically. Funny thing is the day before I read an article on some all about the buzz music blog that deadmau5 got rated one of the worst DJ’s of this year (second behind David Guetta). I think most people consider any live performance by an electronic producer as DJing. And his performance was dated. […]
This sure sounded like a Deadmau5 ripoff to me, both in name & sound, but unlike all those other copycats, Dead CAT Bounce is building better on their predecessor. The soft intro, a vocalist who could carry the beat & an electro funk sound that bounces almost better than the mau5 makes this something to more than just graze over. Definitely bounce worthy.

I like how these EDM stars are getting more into downtempo and Joel’s retake of “I Remember” relaxes it even more with a simple, light-hearted beat. Who’s up for an album like this

This time ’round Deadmau5 covers Radiohead’s “Codex” in an almost mind-numbing, hypnotic kind of way (I know there’s a better word to describe it, though). I have a feeling this next year is going to be a prolific one for this mau5!

The vocals match up oh so well with that Deadmau5 backdrop (well, Special Features remix of Deadmau5) and the transitions are seamless. However, near the end it all seems to fall apart – I like the Chromeo cuts, but it feels like it gets out of sync with the beat after Luda’s bit. But other than that, I love what Musicmatician did with this, blending vocals and beats into a quite comical mashup.
“That tonight I’m fucking you.” “Not romantic, too dramatic.”

Mashup artists are the purveyors of what styles should already be working together, but haven’t quite gotten the clue, yet. DOSVEC takes many opposing styles and makes our ears’ adjust to something that’s a bit experimental now, but commonplace in a few years.

But I’m not here to talk about the film, as good as it was I gotta rep its well picked soundtrack.
The first track to catch my attention was Gangstarr’s “Moment of Truth”. I love when movies put in some quality hip-hop, and although there were some good tracks before this in the movie, Guru’s smooth vocals really brought me to attention – he’s got one real memorable voice. But one track, even more than Gangstarr’s, sealed the deal and made sure I featured the Lincoln Lawyer soundtrack.
[audio:California-Soul-Remix.mp3|titles=California Soul (feat. Ya Boy) (Lincoln Lawyer Remix)]I’m a SoundCloud fanatic. Not only do they have a shitload of good DJ/producers, but the site is also designed to help you find the music you like (it’s the small things that matter). Yea, it’s still overcrowded with dubstep, remixes and mashups – I mean, look at all the choices here – but more & more types of artists are uploading their tracks everyday.
To pay tribute to my SoundCloud fanaticism and the lovely people who are to blame, I decided to throw up my favorites of 2010. Now, I’ve only been prowling around there for maybe six months, so don’t expect EVERY banger to be up on here (make sure to tell me which ones I missed). Also, if I’ve posted a SoundCloud track on here already, it won’t […]

This beat was made for Posner’s “Please Don’t Go”. Fuck the original, this one vibes much harder.
There is, however, one thing a little off in the song -at around 3:40 & 6:20 a subtle ring tone sound seems out of place. I asked DOSVEC about it and he told me it wasn’t anything added by him. I checked Deadmau5’s original and it doesn’t seem to be in there either. It does, however, sound like an instrumental coming from Posner’s original, but I’m still not sure.
Other than that slight nuance, it’s a damn chill tune to tune out to.
