Melodic dubstep may sound like an oxymoron at first, but it is for sure the best of its kind. It’s the kind of music that will take you out of your element, away from your own personal shit show – kinda like most music, but better. I would go as far to say it carries you to heights higher than our own beats to blaze to. So get out your best speakers, preferably headphones, and take a step away for a minute with some bass in mind.

It all started out through our transition with hip-hop. I remember thinking to myself that we needed more uptempo, dance type music. A year later and the majority of the site is just that. As much as we need to hop back on the hip-hop wagon, this electro ride has been one of our favorites!

Instrumental-wise, it’s the standard soul moving music from Blackmill, which is one of the finest growing sounds I’ve heard in dubstep or downtempo. I’m sure it’ll grow on you too, if ya give it a chance.
Make sure to check out our Blackmill SoundKlout feature, one reeelaxing set o’ songs!
[audio:Blackmill-Let-Be.mp3|titles=Let It Be (feat. Veela)]Most would think that melodic dubstep was an oxymoron. As much as I’d agree with them, Blackmill has made melodic dubstep a reality for me. Somehow, Blackmill puts grace on one of the grimiest styles around, dubstep. With a downtempo vibe with melodies more catchy than Jesus on Acid, he’s doing something I hope to see much more in dubstep’s future.
[soundcloud url="http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/12118129" params="player_type=tiny&font=Arial&color=292929" height="18"]Blackmill continues to amaze me with a style of dubstep that few are attempting, melodic dubstep. Most dubstep producers are taking to the rave scene, throwing together aimless tracks and trying to pull off the most progressive sound. And as much as dubstep is the experimental hotspot right now, a focus is still necessary in putting it all together, though that focus may still seem a bit odd to anyone outside the dubstep scene.
Props to Blackmill for deviating from the norm, even though it may seem more “normal” than the actual dubstep scene right now.
[audio:Spirit-Of-Life.mp3|titles=Spirit of Life]First fell in love with Blackmill when he did a dubstep remix of Ellie Goulding‘s “Your Song”, originally by Elton John. Now he’s gone and done it again with his own “Miracle”. I never knew dubstep could be so melodic, but Blackmill sure as hell does it with both of these tunes.
[audio:Miracle.mp3|titles=Miracle]Goulding has got a damn sexy voice, as we all know, but pair it up with some top notch dubstep RMX’s and ya got trip-hop’s worst nightmare unleashed. When I first started searching for Ellie Goulding dubstep remixes, I didn’t think there would be this many well done, but there were, all with their own flavor.
Enjoy ’em as much as I did putting ’em together. If you have any other Goulding’s gone dubstep, make sure to hit ’em up in the comments below.
