Korn · Narcissistic Cannibal

featuring Skrillex & Kill The Noise

I was listening to the radio a couple months back, when I heard a Korn track get all dubstepped out. I was always wondering when mainstream music would catch on to dubstep, and Korn was just the right group to introduce it – Metal & Dubstep were a perfect combo from the start. And as much as I love the concept, this newly released track is… well, meh.

“Narcissistic Cannibal” has got some healthy screams and rubs for that dub-dub delight, but the more I listen to it, the more mediocre it gets. I don’t know if it’s just that nostalgic Korn sound that I’m well over or the choice of dubstep producers, but as eager as I am to push this movement, I’m not so eager to push this track.

Zedd · Shave It (Original Mix)

Shave It? Least the album art is pretty damn slick.

Shave It Am I missing something here It’s a fairly catchy tune, Zedd’s usually pretty saucy with the melodies, but can’t say the lyrics do much of anything for me. Maybe I’m just missing something, but with these Electro House bangers the words usually never really matter anyway. A decent one from Zedd, but nothing compared to the previous ones I’ve posted about him.

Silver Medallion ·· All I Ask

All I ask for is a little Dubstep with my Pop

Even if you are not familiar with the name, your listening habits have likely been influenced by DJ Benzi. The man behind Mike Posner’s rise to fame recently created his own record label by the name of Get Right Records. For his first official release, he enlisted Phoenix-to-New York transplant Silver Medallion to hopefully recreate the success he had with Posner’s “Cooler Than Me” […]

D.veloped · My Dangerously Melodic Anthem

Damn, is Tech N9ne one good looking son of a bitch!

It’s not easy pulling in some iconic samples and making ’em all flow together as fluidly as any of their originals, but D.veloped seems to do it quite often.

In his latest, “Dangerously Melodic Anthem” takes many of the tracks we’ve grown up on and mashes ’em together like cake on ice cream (or is it the other way around). Many of the samples shouldn’t be considered together in any right mind, but since D.veloped’s already pulled it off, I’ll let him slide by this time.

Who wants to name off all the samples on here. I’ll start with one, you fill in the rest – War’s “Low Rider.”

Mick Fanning Surfing | Shot with an Array of GoPros

featuring Salem's epic electrojam, "King Night".

Not only is this one sick ass surfer vid, but it’s got one killer track to back it up. Salem’s “King Night” captures the power of this GoPro array like a charm. It takes this damn decent of a shot and puts it on one holy level. Love how music can do that.

The Gangbang · Close Enough feat. Wale

Childish Gambino // Adele // Chief Stockton

Adele & Gambino would make for one of the most unlikely combos, but damn would it be some fresh.ass.shit. But until that never happens, we get a little collaboration project which takes the two, plus Chief Stockton rhymes, and is produced into one reflective, easy swaying piece. Can’t wait to hear what comes next with this Gangbang of a project – no doubt an interesting concept.

* Most of you probably haven’t heard of Chief Stockton before, I hadn’t, but even though The Gangbang put him in with two powerhouses, he seems to hold his own.

8corp · Bad Mama Jama Mania

Phoenix // Kanye // Jackson 5 // Busta // Passion Pit // & much more

8corp has that certain gift for supermashups. You know that one where he takes such varying vocals and weaves ’em into one seamless piece. When he gets into those certain romps of his, you don’t know what’s coming next, but you know it’s gonna be goooood.

One thing I didn’t care for were the vocal manipulations resulting in that Chipmunk effect, though it’s small price to pay for this beaut of a mashup.

SoundKlout 31 : Basic Physics

Just a few legendary mashups inside

Basic Physics is a mashup producer that hails from the good ol’ Midwest. I’ve been following his career for just over a year now and every once in a while a mashup of his pops up that blows me outta the water. He may not be the most prolific masher, spitting out one or more every week, but when you see a release by him, you know he took the time to get it right.

DJ Ellipsis · TNT Levels

AC/DC // Avicii // Taio Cruz // Journey Mashup

We start off with a decent dance around AC/DC’s “TNT”, until we get into the thick of it all. Soon after the first drop, all hell breaks loose with Avicii’s “Levels” & Taio Cruz’s catchy rhymes from “Dynamite”. Intermission kicks in with an Etta James sample that Pretty Lights made popular. Second half ends it all with Journey’s classic of all classics, “Don’t Stop Believing”, with continuing backups from […]
