Beyond Wonderland 2013

A trip without tripping, that's the plan.

Last year I heard Insomniac was taking its Wonderland festival and bringing it to The Bay. The thing I remember most when looking into Beyond was that Insomniac was trying to create a festival so visually & audibly stimulating there was no need to rely on ecstasy or LSD. As you can imagine, I was pretty eager to find out how well they pulled it off both personally as well as for other attendees. And as much as I can’t speak for them, though some of the pictures can, I will speak a little on my own account.

Visually, everything was pretty enchanting my two nights there, but during the day the drabness of the Shoreline Amphitheater seeped through. Much of the crowd was dressed in full fantasy and really made the scene more than anything. But where as the visuals were decent, the music faltered.

Some of the night acts, namely Zeds Dead & WhiteNoize, were a helluva time, but the music that played most of the day can best be described by one song, the dirty bit version of ‘Time’ by The Black Eyed Peas. In other words, once the beat dropped everything went to shit […]

Eva Simons · I Don’t Like You (Prod. by Zedd)

Progressing pop one female vocalist at at time.

I’m not gonna bullshit around this, I’m not a big fan of Eva Simon’s voice. I can definitely see her doing well on backups, but she lacks the power & personality to be the main act. Thankfully, we get Zedd to bring in some powerful production with that signature breakbeat electro house. If anything, this is just another case of pop progressing past that all too repetitive, outdated EDM. [WAIT FOR IT] (the drop)

Dubstep Remixes of Video Game Classics

Reviving old-school Nintendo & Sega games in the dubstep arena

Inspired by our Dubstep Remixes of Rock Classics, this time around we’re taking our favorite 80’s & 90’s video games and coiling the shit out of ’em with style. It originally started out as just general remixes of video game themes, but after compiling the majority of them, it turned out to be mainly dubstep. Unfortunately, that led to a few good remixes getting cut for now, most notably a favorite hip-hop Mario mashup of mine.

I tried my darndest to get the most memorable classics – such as Zelda, Sonic, Mario and a few other noteworthy – but couldn’t manage to find quality ones for a few. There are just so many damn dubstep remixes out there and most of ’em are complete shit – it’s one of the fastest emerging genres, so there’s bound to be a lot of people hoppin’ on the bandwagon. However, I did manage to come up with 8 solid remixes, so help us come up with the rest and I’ll make sure to give up some cool prizes!! First off, “Hip-Hop Remixes of Video Game Classics”.

Zedd · Shave It (Original Mix)

Shave It? Least the album art is pretty damn slick.

Shave It Am I missing something here It’s a fairly catchy tune, Zedd’s usually pretty saucy with the melodies, but can’t say the lyrics do much of anything for me. Maybe I’m just missing something, but with these Electro House bangers the words usually never really matter anyway. A decent one from Zedd, but nothing compared to the previous ones I’ve posted about him.

Zedd – Legend of Zelda (Original Mix)

Zelda's about to pop that thang against Lord Zedd's power house

First Zedd remixes a pop song to perfection. Now he’s taking Zelda’s classic theme song and electro housing the shit out of it. Big things are a comin’ from this Mighty Morphin PR villian – looks pretty jacked in that pic, too ;)

The track officially drops on the 21st with a bonus electrixx remix. Follow me on Facebook and I’ll hit you up with it when it releases.

The Time (Zedd Remix) – The Black Eyed Peas

Move over Pop, it's Remix time.

I’m not the biggest pop fan, but I do love me some pop remixes – Zedd’s remix of “The Time” being my latest obsession.

The intro & outro don’t seem finished yet, but everything in-between is party bona fide. Will.i.am is one hell of a producer, but Zedd out gamed him on this one.

Look out for more pop remixes in the works… can’t wait to post ’em! can you (Timbaland’s most likely up next)
