Colossal Clusterfest

Comedy Central's first comedy & music festival

I love how Comedy Central can make a fool of themselves. The logo they’ve had since 2011 represents its goofy humor well, a lot like the name of their first ever comedy & music festival, Colossal Clusterfest.

For its first year, it wasn’t a complete cluster fuck, even though the comedians took full advantage of the name. It actually felt like there was more to do than at most music festivals. From visiting a replica of Seinfeld’s original set, which did seem to be a cluster fuck of a line, to a dating show where a comedian represented each of the contestants – I signed my friend up. But the best was still in the comedy and music shows.

Remixed Right 2014, Vol. 3

Pop music never sounded so goood

For our third attempt at this list of 2014 remixes [ one & two ], we first show off our favorites and then get into some danceables, chillables and bassables. It ends with a few inspired by the movies.

Take a listen and hopefully the playlist is better than our intro to it.

Know Good Indie Labels, 2013

12 independent record labels with a well imagined roster

Independent record labels are sprouting up all over the place in location & style. And the ones that are doing it right not only have a choice selection in catalogue, but also take the time to artfully craft their image as they do their artists.

Each of these 12 labels sport some of the most well respected producers & musicians that belong on this blog and create a culture with style around their music. On here I may point out a few that lack in proper online presence, but they are all doing it right when it comes to the perception of this era’s evolution in music labels.

Musicmatician · Not Romantic (Mashup)

Afrojack x Deadmau5 (Special Features RMX) x Chromeo x Enrique feat. Luda

What a creative little mash. The vocals match up oh so well with that Deadmau5 backdrop (well, Special Features remix of Deadmau5) and the transitions are seamless. However, near the end it all seems to fall apart – I like the Chromeo cuts, but it feels like it gets out of sync with the beat after Luda’s bit. But other than that, I love what Musicmatician did with this, blending vocals and beats into a quite comical mashup.

“That tonight I’m fucking you.” “Not romantic, too dramatic.”

Business Casual by Chromeo

"She says I'm not romantic, I saw she's too dramatic."

I actually just talked about Business Casual at Indie Shuffle, but I wanted to feature ’em here, their music is really hittin’ the spot.

Chromeo’s got this throwback 80’s coolnass, but with an electofunk vibe of today(ish). Their songs are catchy as hell with lyrics that’ll get hammered into your head for days (in a good way). Yea, they can be a little cheesy at times, but I think that’s what adds to their appeal.

I’ve been having a hell of time jamming to three of their songs – “Don’t Turn The Lights On” – which is featured in the Indie Shuffle article – “I Could Be Wrong” & […]
