Hiero Day 2015

Annual festival in Oakland

Hieroglyphics is a hip hop group out of Northern California. Each year they celebrate new hip hop talent with their own festival in Oakland on Labor Day. I got the chance to cover their show this year and even though there were over a dozen quality performers to see on each stage, I was there for one.

It took me over three hours to get to Hiero Day, public transit wasn’t doing so well. When I got there the temp had to be hitting on 90 and everyone was looking for shade to sit in. But I had to find Anderson .Paak. The main reason I was there.

I caught him right before his performance on the Third Eye stage. I ran up to him like a giddy fool and blathered about my love for his music. When I realized how foolish I was sounding, his manager assured me that they all felt the same way too. We talked a bit longer about other LA emcees, I actually told him the only other one that could compete with him was Doja Cat. He got a kick out of it.

His performance on stage had just as much character as his music, along with the short time I talked to him. The day was a highlight I’ll be holding on to at least until next Labor Day.

Deltron · Bioscientists

A precursor to the Event

On Thursday, Del threw this up on Facebook, “Here’s the deal yall, help me hit 20K fans on here and I’ll release a new Deltron track. Tell a friend to tell a friend.” So he hit 20k Friday and released “Bioscientists” … though it may not technically be a Deltron track. Today, Del stated, “Just so everybody knows, Dan and Koala were not a part of that track. It was a Deltron solo joint I was fucking around with content wise and wanted to share with yall.”

Some are bitching, as always, about it not being produced by the two and, although, I can see where they’re coming from, Del was the original creator and “Bioscientists” still plays into the Deltron story. I will say that it was a bad move to promote it as Deltron without making it clear from the start that Kid Koala & Dan had nothing to with it.

Music that Got Me Blogging About Music (Part 5)

The best of the BEST (of the best)

Going over this five part series, it’s pretty obvious that hip-hop was the kickstart into my fasciation with music. I had a lot of love and appreciation for classic rock back in the day, but never enough to do anything about it. Discovering music in the underground scene made me realize that not all good music gets promoted, and since my monetary support lacked, I thought I could help in another way.

I hope you enjoy each and every artist on here and make sure to support the ones you appreciate in any way possible. We are their future.

Deltron Event II, Where the Fuck are You?

In search of an official release date...

Banner - Future City

It’s been over ten years since the original Deltron 3030 release and we still don’t know much about Event II. I’ve gone through a many a blog posts & forum threads and still can’t come up with shit. But here are the (few) things I got..

On Deltron’s Wikipedia page, reports claimed “the album would be released [in 2008] or the next”. However, this is 2010, which you know.

As I mentioned before, Deltron has been around for just over ten years now. Going through a lot of forum threads, many believe that the album is set to release somewhere around its ten year anniversary (this year). I mean, I hope to Christ they’re right, but these aren’t the most reliable people. We have, however, come across a more reliable source, Del.

Recently, someone posted a link on here (see comment below) with a YouTube video of Del who talks a bit about Event II and features a few clips off it (check it out in the full article).

If I get any other updates, or you do, post it in the comments.

Deltron 3030

Back to the future, literally.

Banner for Deltron 3030

Going back to 2000, we find a futuristic narrative set in the year 3030. Del tha Funkee Homosapien, or “Deltron Zero” in the story, is a superhero sworn to fight against the evils of the universe (viruses, an oppressive government, the Corporate Bank of Time… just to name a few) with his trusty side-kicks, The Automator or “The Cantankerous Captain Aptos” and scratch mastermind Kid Koala or “Skiznod the Boy Wonder”. Yea, this may sound a little corny for a hip-hop album, but with Del on the mic, Automator and Kid Koalo with backup, it’s a hell of a hip-hop classic.
