Tim Ismag · Ouch (Original Mix)

All sorts of electro madness wrapped up with a lasso

This is one slick rick song. It’s got a lasso for a melody fused with all sorts of electro madness. And vocals are spot on with the beat. It’s actually got me seriously considering compiling a “songs to get in a gun fight to” — think it could work

Restoring Poetry in Music · Catfish Blues

Just a taste of Kingdom of Fireflies for now

I’ve been sittin’ on Restoring Poetry in Music’s Kingdom of Fireflies for too long, so I thought I’d at least share a piece for now. The thing is, it’s not that easy for me to do a write up on a full album, it’s hard enough to do just a song. More importantly though, this is a band that’s so special to us. RPM’s second album, Pyramids in Moscow, was one of the main reasons this blog ever came about — it’s still one of our best finds!

So instead of halfassing a write up on Kingdom of Fireflies, I thought I’d just throw y’all a taste. ‘Catfish Blues’ is definitely the track that takes me back to what I originally loved most in RPM. Raw Poetic’s heavy flow always seems to flow smoothly on top these trip-tronic tracks.

DJ Ellipsis · Sexy Girl on Girl Again

Wolfgang Gartner & LMFAO get one hell of a mashup

I’ve had a little “buyer’s remorse” while writing this post up. But I didn’t write it to highlight the pop shenanigans LMFAO. This praise once again goes to a masher with an ear like no other, Ellipsis. You may be sick as shit of these not-so sexy vocals, but Ellipsis mashed it up with Gartner’s ‘Girl on Girl’ to a precision that I rarely hear. For all you mashup artists out there, this is a well synced song. Love the other samples thrown in there too, it’s a nice touch.

Seven Lions · Days To Come (Coyote Kisses Cover)

Reinventing electro-guitar rock outs

Just when I needed a lil pick-me-up, Coyote Kisses saves the night. I have yet to compare this cover with its original, but this one got some gnarley bass. And Thank You for changing it up, CK, always nice to hear something so fresh.

Mt. Wolf · Climax (Usher Cover)

One delicate voice doin Usher right

I first got the opportunity to listen to Mt. Wolf in a remix of ‘Life Size Ghosts’ by Catching Flies. And where that was a hypnotic chill of Kate Sproule’s delicate voice, their cover of Usher’s ‘Climax’ is a straight-up delicacy, though still chilled.

Last Lynx · Killing Switch

These two can sure tango

Just when I thought I picked another unfound gem, I look over at the good ol’ Hype Machine to find it’s hitting the top 5 on the popular charts, hate when that happens. Well, I may not have been the first to find ’em, but I’m like one of them. :P

Last Lynx’s ‘Killing Switch’ is a good tango between Robin & Fredric’s vocals with a pop beat for this emerging generation [electrofied]. I do wish they would’ve played out their vocies a little longer, seperately & especially together – it just feels cut short.

Flight Facilities · Clair De Lune (ft. Christine Hoberg)

ff, one of a few groups that I can consistently count on for goood music

I’m use to more fun-loving jingles from Flight Facilities and even though this took some time to sink in, I’m sure glad FF switched it up and even better, pulled it off. One thing that lives on from the past is their fiiine selection in vocalists. I don’t know many other musicians that consistently pair up with such pristine lady vocals.

Dead CAT Bounce · Nothing to Say

featuring Emily Underhill bouncin' to the beat

This sure sounded like a Deadmau5 ripoff to me, both in name & sound, but unlike all those other copycats, Dead CAT Bounce is building better on their predecessor. The soft intro, a vocalist who could carry the beat & an electro funk sound that bounces almost better than the mau5 makes this something to more than just graze over. Definitely bounce worthy.

Ace of Base · All That She Wants (Glitch-Bass Remix)

ProJect Aspect gets all sorts of electro weird on these two

ProJect Aspect has reminded us once again how important this glitch bass, lazer heavy beat is for the future of electronic. Electro music is known for its experimentation – now most well known in dubstep – but it’s still far from the cusp of its progression. Glitch bass may never reach the mainstream like its not too distant dubstep relative, but it’s a clear progression in [electro] sound, whether you can handle it or not.

My favorite of Aspect’s may just be another remix, if you’re one who looks down on those kinds of things, but I love it for bringing back Ace of Base’s oh-so classic ‘All That She Wants’ in a whole new flava.

Poka · Lonely Nights (95 Royale Remix)

Pump that happy / feel good music Up!

There’s not many other styles that get my heart beat pumpin like disco does. It’s just the happiest, feel good shit that anyone could ask for. And with my latest love child, 95 Royale’s remix of ‘Lonely Nights,’ this funky bass kicks better than ever with disco filters galore. Tell me this doesn’t lift you up right from the start. Tell me!
