Lazer Disco

I love lazer!

Another style of house we made up. I freakin’ love lasers! I first remember it in ghetto funk, but it makes its appearance all over electro funk, house and everywhere electronic.

If it’s not clear off the bat what I mean by lazer, just think the synth sound and blow it out to extravagant proportions. Something like our glam fucks. Really pierces the ears.

It’s bold. It’s fresh. It’s the best music to dance to right now – it’s rooted in disco for god’s sake.

Dance Party 2014

Ain't no party like a dance party.

I’ve gone to a handful of EDM shows & festivals over the last year and I just don’t get how people can dance to most of the popular shit these days (says the hipster music blogger). At least not when you’ve got such better music to dance to (also hipster). So obviously we had to put a list together (very hipster).

Our Dance Party mix for 2014 is geared more towards the club or house party rather than the rave. I guess that’s where we differ from the higher BPM, bombastic music dominating EDM right now.

We get into various forms of house music on here, but there’s plenty of other influences as well — I’m being vague because I just spent way too much of my time putting together this list and I don’t have time to articulate it (like always).

VAPOR

When anime & electronic got together

Vapor is not really a style or genre. We got it from vaporwave, which most closely sounds like PUPANG’s Zane, but our list seems to be more electro influenced than vaporwave’s housey-synth sound.

The most common theme among all this vaporness is the cultural Japanese references, mainly inspired by anime & video games, and has an almost kiddish quality to it… which I warn you many won’t like. It’s not for everyone, as with most of our lists, but I dig the hell out of this sound.

Hot Natured · Benediction (Lxury Remix)

Bringing electro from the East into London's new house style

When I post a remix it’s usually because I’ve found the most impressive vocals in a sound more my style. In Lxury’s case though, this ‘Benediction’ remix is more about his sound than Ali Love’s borrowed vocals. Lxury’s take on London’s new style in house blended with Japan’s vaporwave sound is rich, bold & a nice step forward for EDM.

Make sure to check out Lxury’s collab with Disclosure as well – a top number in our favorite EDM of 2013.

2013’s Best Electronic Dance Music

EDM, it's not as fucked as you'd think.

Try not to think of EDM or electronic dance music as purely just the dubstep, deadbeat music that the mass majority like to think of it as. Dance music has been filled with electronic sounds for decades and its reach is almost all encompassing. From disco to house this music has come a long way and we’re just at the tipping point of things to come (aren’t we always).

Lxury · J.A.W.S

Co-produced with Disclosure

Starting to think Method Records may be my new favorite label. With their most notable release of the year, ‘Together‘ sports some notable names including Nile Rodgers, Disclosure & Sam Smith. But before all that, they gave us Lxury’s ‘J.A.W.S.’, which I’m now coming to find was co-produced with Disclosure.

Disclosure is all over the place and that’s a key to creativity. They know the art of collaborate as their past pairings like Lxury can corroborate.
