SP-33’s Escape From Tha Carter

Weezy Gets Grimey with Carpenter

Chopping up Lil’ Wayne’s lines from The Carter and dubbing ’em over John Carpenter’s Escape from New York score sounds risky – ya gotta appease two different crowds, the hip-hop heads and fanatics of Carpenter’s cult classic. But SP-33 manages to take from the two and mash it, cut it and whip it into a completely new grimey cocktail.

My first encounter with Escape from Tha Carter was its 5th track, “A Milli(liter of Vaccine)”. The best line I’ve heard that fully describes my feelings for this song were, “[it] makes me want to chew oxy’s and drive a tank” […]

Don Glover is the Childish Gambino

with a collection of Childish RMX's!

When I first heard the little Gambino tear up some lines I had mad respect for his lyrics, but wasn’t feeling his style. As talented as he is in words, his style of rap could use some work. He can get in flows that drop jaws in awe, but other times I’m just not feeling it. It just reminds me of an offshoot of Hoodie Allen, which I’m not too big a fan of – although, I do understand it’s more a matter of opinion.

But fuck all the hatin’, I get gitty when I hear anything new from Mr. Glover. He absolutely made Community for me, with the help of Danny Pudi (of course) – and all the rest of the cast. Mystery Team, a movie Glover co-wrote and stars in, is another gem y’all should check out, though it may not be your taste in comedy (but it’s mine). I can’t wait for what’s to come next with Don, not just because of his talent, but his ability to cross into many forms of entertainment.

Check out a few remixes I found on SoundCloud – a twisted taste of his work.

Bossasaurus – Lacerta

A constellation of gen[i]us

I first caught wind of Bossasaurus back in December, but like my scattered brain, I lost them in my music pile of mess. Well, when I saw some snippets for what’s soon to come from these gents, I had to go back to Lacerta, their debut EP.

“Light Pollution” may have been my initial kick into Bossasaurus’ Lacerta, but I’m starting to warm up to a few of their other tracks. The EP’s got a range of styles, more than I initially thought, and really gives intro to the gen[i]us of these constellations – Lacerta is a constellation/genus of reptile (I’m trying to provide some sort of entertainment :)
