For those moments late at night when your trying to get as far away from life as possible, ‘Voyeur’ is for you. Bear//Face takes James Blake and deepens his voice into something that helps us all get away for awhile. Something all music is trying for, but few do better than just the point of “sounding good.”

So I guess The Creator’s Project went up and got all the stems from Phoenix’s ‘Trying to Be Cool’ and bestowed it upon us all. I’ve went through a few of the big numbered remixes and found Breakbot’s disco delight, but also caught something a bit off the radar with Will Bloomfield’s entrancing electro.
I’ve had these lyrics stuck in my head all damn day and it really could’ve been from either of these two. What remix do you prefer over the other

Another rare case where I love reading into a song’s lyrics more than just a single verse at a time. Actually I usually make up my own words, but Tove Lo’s Habits paints a clear picture like few others do. She simply tells a good story.

This is such a powerful song, but first I need to get to more pressing matters on my mind. The lone trumpet or brass instrument playing throughout Joywave’s ‘Dying Well’ sure as hell reminded me of Homeland’s opening credits – well, up until I rewatched them. It may not remind me of the credits anymore, but there’s gotta be something Homelandish about that damn thing — thoughts
Now back to the actual song, ‘Dying Well’ has one sensual lead vocals that carry well with none other than that lonely brasstrument (hate that thing). This whole piece carries pretty damn well in fact, yet unfortunately the rest of Joywave’s 88888 mixtape does not. I didn’t find anything else on there that stuck in my head quite like ‘Dying Well.’ I may not understand all the lyrics in it yet, but I get the message clear.

There’s alotta music that sounds good, but few become all that memorable. To have a sound you know you’ll be listening to for a good long while, as sparing as that while may be, is what we all look for in music.
I first caught wind of Max Frost with his ‘White Lies’ track that’s topping the charts on the Hype Machine right now. And as memorable as ‘White Lies’ may be, what I didn’t expect was to find a bunch more memorables.
Frost’s SoundCloud is littered with funky hick jives that are all single worthy in their own right. His 50’s bebop style with Black Keys like vocals could only be topped off right with such memorable chorus lines. I’m looking with a keen eye on this guy, not a mediocre track to his name, yet.

Like all the indie and most the music I listen to, I can’t quite spell out why I like what I like in the songs that I post here. Really, it’s just the right sounds conforming at the right time, I guess.
Tiny Tiny is straight up indie that I’m not quite sure on yet, my prowess with indie music is still in its infancy, but every sound of theirs has conformed right in my head so far. My favorite of theirs, ‘Take the Time,’ reminds me of of Robin Hood (Disney’s) or some song from a Wes Anderson film.

How the hell did I not think this one up Bordeaux has been making my melancholy music since the last half of 2012 and if you know anything about this blog, you know how much we love disco. And yet somehow I didn’t complain that the two haven’t gotten together yet – I usually do it so well.
Well, no need to complain now. Bordeaux brings a sombre touch to this flashy, nu disco movement and the only gripe I got with it is that I didn’t think to pair up the two first (which I’m sure you’re well aware of by now).

I can’t understand half of what she’s saying, but whatever it is she says it well. Polica came onto my radar once I got to know the Midwest super group, GAYNGS, which they’re a part of. Justin Vernon is also involved with the supagroup and features on this newest Polica track, ‘Tiff.’
Vernon might actually be the only thing I didn’t like on ‘Tiff.’ His intro half way through the song doesn’t sound right and just wasn’t blended well, though his eerier presence afterwards fit in right. Other than that the song seems to be hit worthy, especially on the Hype Machine.
Just two days into the song, over 40 bloggers have already mentioned Tiff. The song actually, intentionally or unintentionally, brings up that they’re a “pawn in the hype machine” and I’m wondering how many bloggers admitted the same on their post.

I am absolutely falling for Mt. Wolf. Ever since I heard Kate Sproule’s voice in a Catching Flies remix of ‘Life Size Ghosts,’ I knew she’d fit right into my roster of female vocalists to watch. But Mt. Wolf doesn’t just carry a good singer, the instrumentals on their recent Hypolight EP are beautifully dark & enchanting. And damn does Kate’s poignant words carry in the chorus. Really etches her lines into my head all.damn.day <3

Night Panther’s ‘Fire’ strangely reminds me of a few different random-ass things. For the first few bars when the vocals kick in, the song slightly reminds me of Home Alone and the nostalgic flashbacks of Kevin preparing for his prankster ways on Marv & Harry (told you it was random). Then it goes on to sounding like a Starfucker bonanza at around 2 minutes past with electro sounds a-blazin’. It finally closes out by returning to that signature Night Panther falsetto with crisp bars of brass behind it, like always (or one other time).
