We’re finally getting our favorite musicians of 2012 out there. Remixes & heavy sampling have made up most of the other best music of 2012, but the rest of these are all originals (at least for the most part).
I also decided to change it from 2012’s best musicians to the most promising. They may be our favorite musicians of 2012, but they’re probably all new to you – except Frank, Madeon & Miike maybe.
Also remember, not every one of these may be your favorite style, but you’ll definitely find a few you’ll enjoy for a good while.

Just two years ago I couldn’t find a half decent disco track, let alone anything funk or R&B. So like I do best, I filtered the shit out of the web and found me some good ol’, new-fashioned Soul music. This new style of Soul, however, isn’t like before, there are all sorts of electronic influences grown in. So let’s take a look at my Soul obsessions of 2012 and see what’s in store for the future.
[soundcloud url="http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/59381283" iframe="false" params="player_type=tiny&font=Arial&color=292929" height="18"]I love disco!! (no surprise) This blog has gone from hip-hop to electronica to mashups to dubstep to edm with some stops in ghetto funk & hypnotic soul, but I’ve finally arrived. (nu)Disco is my jam. See you in a couple months within another.
And of all the nu disco souls out there, Moon Boots may not be my #1 choice in disco right now, but he’s in the top two.atmosphere His latest remix of Alison Valentine’s ‘Peanut Butter’ pulls out all the MoonBoots bells & whistles that make his music so much goddamn fun to dance to. As far as Valentine, her vocals rides well with a soft touch. And although I usually like stronger lead vocals, I’ll trust Moon Boots on this one.
[soundcloud url="http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/57988160" iframe="false" params="player_type=tiny&font=Arial&color=292929" height="18"]Moon Boots is only of a handful of disco producers who are pushing this movement mainstream, but he needs to up his original works if he plans to make a real impact. It’s not that I’m not completely smitten (yep, smitten) by his fabolous disco remixes, they’re actually some of his best work – but once you’re a legit producer such as this, it’s your obligation to dig up the very best singers of today. Alright, I think I’ve made my point, on to more positive things…
Moon Boots’ ‘Sugar’ is so.damn.good no.goddamn.title could justify it, but ‘Sugar’ is fine enough. Taking vocals from Janet Jackson’s ‘If,’ you really catch how similar her voice is to Michael’s, not just in sound but in style as well. This may just be another awesome disco remix, but that’s what Moon Boots does best (for now).
[soundcloud url="http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/54088741" params="player_type=tiny&font=Arial&color=292929" height="18" width="60%"]This may have just been shy of making our Hottest Nu-Disco in the Funkin World, but it still deserves its own feature. And once again it’s the vocals that steal the show.
Moon Boots sure is making some of the most magical nu-disco on the block, but not even he can outshine Violetness in ‘Running From.’ I know I go on & on & on & on about vocalists in just about every post I make, but tell me she doesn’t just capture you right away. Well, she didn’t capture me right away, but once I felt her tender lips all up in my aura, I was smitten beyond belief ;)
[soundcloud url="http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/51581353" params="player_type=tiny&font=Arial&color=292929" height="18" width="60%"]Last year when I was writing up a piece on the best ghetto funk of 2011, I thought that ghetto funk would be the next biggest thing in emerging music – well, I more hoped it would be. The sub-genre just doesn’t have enough traction with producers and listeners to be the next big thing. However, I do know what’s about to tear up this next progression in music and this time it’s not just wishful thinking.
Our last major mix of music was comprised of the next stylings in R&B. With the likes of Frank Ocean & The Weeknd, soul music is back, but that’s only one half of the equation. Where this hipster R&B is our new music to make love to, nu-disco is where it’s at to get down and dirty on the dance floor […]
[soundcloud url="http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/19736291" params="player_type=tiny&font=Arial&color=292929" height="18" width="60%"]I was sure as hell certain that this was a remix from the first time I listened to it. The vocals seemed too damn familiar, like an R&B track from the late 90’s, but there was no indication that this wasn’t their work. But every time I listened to it, I just knew it wasn’t. So thanks to Google, I finally found out that this is in fact a remix of Wayne Wonder’s “No Letting Go” … and now I feel like a jackass for not knowing that.
Too many SoundClouders don’t put down the proper information for a track they post. For whatever reason, copyright or otherwise, it gets to be a pain in the ass for people like me to hunt down the information, let alone even know it’s a remix. To be fair, it’s not that hard to ask or figure it out, but why make it more complicated than it has to be…
