Remixes are more subjective than their original. What I mean is not only is the sound important, but the sound relative to the original as well. How good, how different.
So not everyone is going to like every one of these. Sometimes we’re all just too wrapped up in the original to enjoy it at a new angle and sometimes they’re just not perfectly mastered. Most of these producers haven’t hit big enough to have the resources for that, but it doesn’t mean they don’t know how to put sounds together.
In only two months we’re on our second best of remixes for 2014 (vol 1) and there are too many good ones to count (21). It’s mostly on the electro-house | disco-soul spectrums, but when is it not on here (we love our disco-soul). We also threw in some Ghetto Funk to bring it back.
One thing we’re finding with these 2014 remix lists are the mashups are lacking. I don’t know if my ear is getting uptight or what, but I still can’t find a single damn good mashup in 2014. Well, one of these are technically a mashup, but I bet you can’t spot it.

Most music I like these days are released as singles, which honestly work best for many artists, but it’s nice to get a hold of stuff like this when I can. Great albums are far more rare than great songs.
I’ve already featured Zhu’s Superfriends track off of Nightday and in it I hoped dearly he was a she (there was alotta mystery going around at the time). But now we’re pretty 100% he’s a man, especially while finding something interesting in our inbox.
While going through our email to find some info a PR guy sent out about Zhu — oh, and how do you people find my email? ******! — I found a gentleman named Steven Zhu hit me up about a few of his remixes almost three years back. Now most likely they’re not connected and I’m just becoming my own little gossip blog, but they do both claim to live in Los Angeles …Steven Zhu has taken down his YouTube & SoundCloud links and…
Never mind. Just found proof. Zhu’s first name is Steven. Hello, Steven :P
Deja vu.
… except Zhu does his own production.
Zhu’s ‘Superfriends’ starts with a pitched down rap that I can only assume isn’t original ’cause it’s laid out so damn cunningly and this is only Zhu’s second release that we know of. But I’ve exhausted my resources and the blogosphere claims this to be all Zhu’s doing, vocals and all. And that’s not even the best of it, he or she (who knows) can throw one hell of a fiendish beat together. Zhu’s got triple threat written all over her (I hope it’s a gal, somehow).
