Bassnectar · Vava Voom (feat. Lupe Fiasco)

+ Another album on the way this April (goes by the same name)

More drumstep from Bassnectar with Lupe Fiasco fitting right in. A well done track, but I’m kinda moving on from this horror-filled, game theme classic style of dubstep. I wanna hear an MC on this.

Piece of Mind · Rap Phenomenon

Hip-Hop isn’t dead, it’s just not the most progressive genre anymore. It may not have slowed down, there are many instances of hip-hop’s progression nowadays, but electronic music is far surpassing it in experimentation and pushing the boundaries of music is (whether ya like it or not).

That said, hip-hop still has their classic sound to fall back on to and Piece of Mind does it just right. “Rap Phenomenon” sounds more like a 90’s style of rap, not relying on hard bass or House music to keep it fresh. And until hip-hop starts busting into the online scene, hopefully with the help of SoundCloud where music is progressing faster than ever, keeping with that old school viibe is fine with me.

Fullhaus · All Rolled Up (Wiz Khalifa & 311 Mashup)

This one's for that spring breeze already kickin' in.

I don’t see enough of my favorite 90’s – early 00’s groups getting mashed, but Fullhaus comes through once again with a solid flowing mix of two. Taking vocals from Wiz Khalifa’s “Rolled Up” & that nostalgic beat from 311’s “Mixed Up,” Fullhaus puts on one clever show. It may be a little difficult for 311 fans to grasp at first, but once you let it start flowing, it’s one smoooooth ride.

Edit Undo Music · T.R.O.U.B.L.E.

Mashing up the Beastie Boys with Dillon Francis

So I guess Francis makes those classic Beastie Boys lines stick out like a charm. The mash needs a few small tweaks on certain voice overs, but damn does it bring the two sounds together also, like a charm. Someone needs to make a mashup album of these two or maybe get them to collab or some shyyt ’cause this makes for some interesting flows.

Fullhaus · Gucci Gucci Gucci

Sampling Kreayshawn, Kito & Gucci Gucci Mane

This beat sure as hell doesn’t need Kreayshawn or Gucci Mane, but the original vocals just aren’t powerful enough to do it justice either. Fullhaus does, however, hit the mark by cutting up Kito’s ‘Sweet Talk’ just right, editing the track to progress right up to the end.

Now, we just gotta find proper vocals to highlight it. I’d say possibly keep Kito’s original vocals on there too, if it fits right.

Run-DMC · It’s Tricky (SSX Pretty Lights Remix)

Puttin an electro-trip to this hip-hop classic

I’ve actually had my ups and downs with this one, it’s not that I ever disliked it, I just didn’t have as strong of a feeling for it. I love that signature Pretty Lights sound, but there’s really nothing new as far as experimenting and that’s why I love the dude so much in the first place.

Still, it takes us back and makes for one hell of a Run-DMC remix… although, it’s still not on the level of his 2010 unreleased remixes (yet).

Deltron · Bioscientists

A precursor to the Event

On Thursday, Del threw this up on Facebook, “Here’s the deal yall, help me hit 20K fans on here and I’ll release a new Deltron track. Tell a friend to tell a friend.” So he hit 20k Friday and released “Bioscientists” … though it may not technically be a Deltron track. Today, Del stated, “Just so everybody knows, Dan and Koala were not a part of that track. It was a Deltron solo joint I was fucking around with content wise and wanted to share with yall.”

Some are bitching, as always, about it not being produced by the two and, although, I can see where they’re coming from, Del was the original creator and “Bioscientists” still plays into the Deltron story. I will say that it was a bad move to promote it as Deltron without making it clear from the start that Kid Koala & Dan had nothing to with it.

Notorious B.I.G. & 2Pac · Watching Over the Throne

Presented by DJ Rob Dinero & O'neal McKnight

Was wondering if I was gonna see Biggie or 2pac mixed into this Watch the Throne hit, but never thought I’d get the pleasure of both. DJ Rob Dinero & O’neal McKnight present one well laid mashup with Biggie’s “Notorious Thugs” up first. The cuts are right on point and goes hard up until the 2pac transition, which is my only gripe with it. It sounds off for a few, but ends well with 2pac’s “Loyal 2 the Game” rhymes.

Make sure to check out the video too, good shyyt.

The Hood Internet · Shadow Cruising

Alan Wilkis x White Hinterland x Lyrics Born x Jib Kidder Mashup

I’ll praise any masher that chooses an underground MC over any of the mainstream hip-hop that’s being overly mixed & mashed nowadays. Not only that, taking a beat from anyone other than the stereotypical EDMer is a big bonus.

In The Hood Internet’s “Shadow Cruising” mashup, it’s so good to hear Lyrics Born on a fresh beat. It makes me wonder what his new album with Lateef is going to sound like. Well, if it’s anything like this, it’ll be a welcomed change.

Gorillaz · DoYaThing

featuring Andre 3000 & James Murphy

Damon Albarn puts that memorable, monotone voice to good use in “DoYaThing” with backups by Andre 3000 and James Murphy on the production. As much as I love to hear Albarn’s soothing vocals, Andre 3000 was the add-on that this shit needed. I don’t know what’s the plans for the future (too lazy to Google it right now), but 3000 better.be.in.it.
