Make You Pop (Hooky Dubstep Remix) by Diplo

If the devil listened to music, this would be it.

I don’t know why I like dubstep, but sometimes the beat takes you. It’s like screamo music, only a certain person can handle it.

I’m not into a lot of dupstep, however, a nice blend of dub vibes fused with anything from Nelly Furtado to Mozart will get my rave face on.

Hooky’s remix of “Make You Pop” has a good build until it drops so-damn-hard 53 seconds in. The beat hits right on the spot with some unusual sounds for music. Only in dubstep could you drop in something that sounds like your computer just got totally fucked – and sound goood. Enjoy.

Stargate Studios Virtual Backlot Reel (2009)

featuring Lionheart by Emancipator

We all need a mental vacation once in a while, and with Emancipator’s escapist sounds it’s the perfect remedy to let the mind at ease.

Stargate Studios recently used Emancipator’s “Lionheart” to help unfold the fascinating virtual manipulation that goes on in their studio. I don’t know which I’m more impressed by – Emancipator or Stargate Studios – but combine the two and get artistic look at how easy our eyes can be deceived.

Shit is unbelievable.

Illmerica by Wolfgang Gartner

Support your artists!

Yesterday I saw Wolfgang Gartner post this status on Facebook and it caught my eye (hit up the full article).

We give out mp3′s here for free, but we fully support, and try to get others to support, the musicians we promote. Whether it be through purchasing their music online or the many other alternatives, it’s important to keep the music alive and the artists thriving. Now to the good stuff…

As for the featured song, it’s another bangin’ beat. I featured “Wolfgang’s 5th Symphony” a couple weeks back and, to be honest, didn’t think I’d see much of him for at least a little while more. But “Illmerica” has surprised me with an even better beat to bump to before the bars (or after). Although I keep mistakenly calling it Illmatic, <3 Nas.

Smell It (Starfucker Remix) by Copy

One chill-ass tune.

While on my daily Facebook stocking rounds, I came across a Starfucker’s post on Josh Hodges’s remix of “I Can Smell It”, originally by Copy.

Let’s just say there’s a big damn difference between the two. I was originally going to post Copy’s version along with the remix, but it really wasn’t worth it. Props to Copy for the original, but it’s got nothing on Josh’s remix.

I find with a lot of electronic beats, there are usually some sick samples used, but when they put it all together it falls short of a stand out track. It’s not just about taking/creating good beats, but how you [...]

The Recluse (Nero Remix) by Plan B

My new theme song!

I was surfing SoundCloud a few days back, at work, when I ran into this beaut’. It took me sometime to catch the lyrics, but when I did, I realized they spoke the words that I’ve felt for so long.

I do love to rage on the occasion, but sometimes I like going a couple days without seeing anyone – I just get so much more done! And a lot of my friends/family can’t quite understand that. I guess now I can just point ‘em to this song :)

The only thing I don’t like about “The Recluse” is Plan B’s rap towards the end. I’ve dealt with a lot of hip-hop artists from [...]

Wolfgang’s 5th Symphony by Wolfgang Gartner

Mozart raving on MDMA.

This dude totally stole my idea!… and just about a few million others. I’ve always wanted to remix classic works. But it’s all about pulling it off, something I haven’t done… yet, and Wolfgang Gartner has done just that. Throughout the piece I get a little lost at times, but I quickly catch up – he seems to stray from the original a little too much for my liking.

Bassnectar introduced me to this dubstep, electro, house-type music. I’m really starting to dig the glitchy reverberations that I’ve never really heard before. I’m still fairly new to the genre/various sub-genres, but it sure makes for good workout music.

Anyone got some suggestions on good workout music?

North Coast Music Festival 2010

Checked out the Friday set, wish I saw it all!

It may’ve taken me two weeks to get this out (lazy lazy), but here’s a look at Friday’s set at North Coast Music Fest ’10.

Our site just turned one years old on September 3rd, so I thought I’d take a little vaca to Chicago and check out the North Coast Music Fest. I decided to only go Friday because a friend of mine couldn’t make it and all I really wanted to see was Pretty Lights.

We got there a little late – I’m not too good with directions – when we ran into will call, which was a fucking long wait. Well, we snuck up to the front and finally got in after [...]

Far Away Trains Passing By by Ulrich Schnauss

featuring the musically induced high, Between Us and Them.

If you’ve got time, listen to Ulrich Schnauss’s “Between Us and Them” all the way through. The song is a growing sequence that builts on top of it self, and doesn’t flourish until well into the second half. It’s best listened to in the darkness of the night or, better yet, out in the open summer’s sun (ok, just in a quiet place). Either way it’ll put your mind at ease… which will help me offset all the dubstep I’ve been listening to.

As for the rest of the album, it carries on with the same vibe as “Between Us and Them”, but doesn’t hit the highs that the featured song does. It, however, is still an excellent collection of soothing ambient sounds. If you really need to get out of your head for a while, this will get you there.
