Luminaire ·· Separate Ways

From Disco to House, just like our soulful forefathers

Luminaire’s Seperate Ways is a 5-track EP with a healthy mix of House & Disco. And even though it’s hard to differentiate Disco from House at times, I of course flock to the side that carries the soulful singers (disco, I’m guessing). ‘Allready Over’ & ‘It Will Be Allright’ are right up there with what first got me into my love lust with Luminaire, but they still gotta ways to go to toppel my first love.

Moullinex · Take My Pain Away (Gigamesh Remix)

Won't take your pain away for a day, but four minutes is plenty enough.

Does this not sound like an intro to some 70’s, 80’s or 90’s flick Maybe like a teen movie or a Miami Vice type show. Or maybe something out of Grand Theft Auto or Scarface… Whatever it is, Gigamesh always brings nu-disco interests and always backed up with some fine ass vocals. God, if this doesn’t get your heart pumpin plenty… you shouldn’t be listening to us.

DJ EQ · Time (Original Mix)

The full disco package with funky beats & vocal treats

DJ EQ is new to my ears but brings the full disco package with ‘Time’: funky beats & vocal treats. This may just be a preview of his nu disco charm, but it’s damn addicting & I couldn’t sit on it. But like too many other nu disco tracks, this keeps me wondering what vocals EQ used – credit your peoples, people. [Note: WAIT for the vocals to KICK in]

Alison Valentine · Peanut Butter (Moon Boots Remix)

I've finally arrived on these nu disco waves

I love disco!! (no surprise) This blog has gone from hip-hop to electronica to mashups to dubstep to edm with some stops in ghetto funk & hypnotic soul, but I’ve finally arrived. (nu)Disco is my jam. See you in a couple months within another.

And of all the nu disco souls out there, Moon Boots may not be my #1 choice in disco right now, but he’s in the top two.atmosphere His latest remix of Alison Valentine’s ‘Peanut Butter’ pulls out all the MoonBoots bells & whistles that make his music so much goddamn fun to dance to. As far as Valentine, her vocals rides well with a soft touch. And although I usually like stronger lead vocals, I’ll trust Moon Boots on this one.

Luminaire · Shake

This is the stuff to pump you UP

Anytime I’m ever feelin the blues, I take to disco to cheer me up and Luminaire just may be my main man for it. He always pulls out the most catchy choruses and his latest is no exception.

I should’ve posted ‘Shake’ when it first came out, but I wanted to sit on it a bit. At first, it didn’t compete with ‘Dream Lowe‘ or ‘Missing You,’ but I’ve since warmed up along the way. Once again Luminaire touches on my disco nerve just right.

Moon Boots · Sugar

Janet Jackson skips over this with style & grace

Moon Boots is only of a handful of disco producers who are pushing this movement mainstream, but he needs to up his original works if he plans to make a real impact. It’s not that I’m not completely smitten (yep, smitten) by his fabolous disco remixes, they’re actually some of his best work – but once you’re a legit producer such as this, it’s your obligation to dig up the very best singers of today. Alright, I think I’ve made my point, on to more positive things…

Moon Boots’ ‘Sugar’ is so.damn.good no.goddamn.title could justify it, but ‘Sugar’ is fine enough. Taking vocals from Janet Jackson’s ‘If,’ you really catch how similar her voice is to Michael’s, not just in sound but in style as well. This may just be another awesome disco remix, but that’s what Moon Boots does best (for now).

Moon Boots · Running From

featuring the truly *smitening* Violetness vocals

This may have just been shy of making our Hottest Nu-Disco in the Funkin World, but it still deserves its own feature. And once again it’s the vocals that steal the show.

Moon Boots sure is making some of the most magical nu-disco on the block, but not even he can outshine Violetness in ‘Running From.’ I know I go on & on & on & on about vocalists in just about every post I make, but tell me she doesn’t just capture you right away. Well, she didn’t capture me right away, but once I felt her tender lips all up in my aura, I was smitten beyond belief ;)

Hottest Nu-Disco in the Funkin World

featuring the 16 best nu-disco songs for gettin dirty on the dance floor

Last year when I was writing up a piece on the best ghetto funk of 2011, I thought that ghetto funk would be the next biggest thing in emerging music – well, I more hoped it would be. The sub-genre just doesn’t have enough traction with producers and listeners to be the next big thing. However, I do know what’s about to tear up this next progression in music and this time it’s not just wishful thinking.

Our last major mix of music was comprised of the next stylings in R&B. With the likes of Frank Ocean & The Weeknd, soul music is back, but that’s only one half of the equation. Where this hipster R&B is our new music to make love to, nu-disco is where it’s at to get down and dirty on the dance floor […]

Viceroy · Chase Us Around (feat. Madi Diaz)

I'm pretty sure I gotta get the fuck outside more.

Every time I hear a Viceroy production, it always reminds me of how much I gotta get out of the house! As you can imagine, I’m one who dwells in a cellar for weeks on end, but at least I’m starting to realize my foolish ways. And hopefully Viceroy’s latest will break me of this dreaded curse! (though, probably not)

‘Chase Us Around’ is another Viceroy attempt at the Caribbean steel drum style with a wee bit of the dirty bass and highs that’ll make the best of beach jams. And of course we can’t forget the fun loving vocals by Madi Diaz. I can’t say I’m the biggest fan of her sound, she’s almost too fun loving for me, but they fit this Viceroy jam like a glove.
