The Swiss · Elouisa

with a falsetto that rivals the Bee Gees

This Swiss duo, who are actually from Australia, has made one catchy little disco shit. Whoever the hell they enlisted for vocals sounds straight 70’s with a falsetto that rivals the Bee Gees. But even more impressive is that chorus – it always closes the deal (especially) in disco. And like always, I swear I’ve heard it before, probably on some Magician mix, but it may just be so good I’m remembering it from my future (I swear that’s a thing).

Funk LeBlanc

Flipping french on its funk ear

Crossing language barriers in music has always been difficult, but when the beat is right then we don’t need no stinking words that mean anything. Funk LeBlance, a producer from the Bay, not only takes french and turns it on its disco//funk ear, but classics from Michael Jackson & Jade as well. Especially love Jade’s ‘Every Day of the Week’ flipped and flopped around for this generation’s ears.

The Biggest Problem Up & Coming Producers Face

with a good example from Shoe Scene Symphony's lastest remix

If there’s one thing that’s always been difficult for up and coming producers to find is a solid pair of vocal cords. We’ve got an over abundance of DJ’s & producers on SoundCloud & YouTube now, yet most are still relying on remixes, samples or just keeping it instrumental. Some eventually network their way into some talented singers or rappers, but it’s not happening fast or often enough, especially for this digital age. Which brings us to Shoe Scene Symphony’s latest track.

The 3S duo discussed on their SoundCloud page how difficult it was “to find a quality acapella” for their latest beat and didn’t seem too enthusiastic with their final selection — though that may just be my interpretation. It’s not that Aaliyah wasn’t a good choice, it’s just these instrumentals deserve their own original vocals, let alone a better match. It’s just coming up with the perfect vocals that’s been a problem for Shoe Scene Symphony and most other “under the radar” producers. […]

Best of the Phoenix ‘Trying to Be Cool’ Remixes

Breakbot & Bloomfield do two different #'s to this soon to be classic

So I guess The Creator’s Project went up and got all the stems from Phoenix’s ‘Trying to Be Cool’ and bestowed it upon us all. I’ve went through a few of the big numbered remixes and found Breakbot’s disco delight, but also caught something a bit off the radar with Will Bloomfield’s entrancing electro.

I’ve had these lyrics stuck in my head all damn day and it really could’ve been from either of these two. What remix do you prefer over the other

Ghosts of Venice · My Love

featuring Josh Jakq gon' disco fresh

Ghosts of Venice treat us to some hearty, upbeat disco with a special guest on vocals. And like I love to point out with every song I post of his, Josh Jakq reminds me too much of Justin Timberlake. However, the tables have turned this time around when I heard a song playing it instantly reminded me of Josh Jakq’s voice and it turned out to be none other than JT’s. But besides my not-so brilliant insight that’s probably been pointed out to him too much already, it’s nice to hear Jakq change up his work from the hypnotics of soul to something so disco fresh. A definite match for that falsetto of his.

Hot Natured · Reverse Skydiving (Benoit & Sergio)

A disco remix of Anabel Englund's sultry seductions

I get such vivid imagery from something as simple as this song’s title. Same goes for the lyrics with their fun & well crafted ways. However, where this song really shines is in Benoit & Sergio’s disco rework of Hot Natured’s original. Anabel Englund’s voice packs such power without what seems any effort. Natural soul.

Moon Boots · Love Strong

Also, the need for a proper credits system

So like I always do, I made up my own lyrics to Moon Boots’ Love Strong song or at least parts of it. But when I tried to figure out the actual lyrics, I couldn’t. The weird thing is that these vocals sound so familiar. I thought a simple Google search or a SHAZAM! would do it, but no such luck.

This is why credits need to be given with a simple search.. or simpler. For the first time we have the ability to properly store extensive song data, yet there’s still no widely-known & used service that gives musicians this ability, easily. This has been brought up at a few SF MusicTech discussions I’ve listened to and I’m sure it will be again, but hopefully with someone who has a promising demo to show off this time around. [Dreams]

Daft Punk · Get Lucky

with Pharrell Williams & Nile Rodgers

I remember telling a friend of mine that Daft Punk’s SNL sample was better than most music. Unfortunately, it’s also better than the final version of ‘Get Lucky.’ It’s not that the final with Pharrell on vocals is all that bad, even though I hear far too many criticize it to be, it’s just the sample outweighs the master and far better represents Daft Punk’s mystique & image.

The biggest issue on ‘Get Lucky’ goes to Pharrell. As much as I love the catch in his chorus, his intro (and really everything but the chorus) is outright amateur sounding. I usually criticize a song for not getting to the good stuff fast enough, but this should’ve road the beat out a bit longer, it deserves the solo time. In fact, that Nile Rodgers’ guitar strum is the only thing that’ll be remembered in the long run. Take a look at a few examples of this amazing sample in use and wait for more things to come from this simple guitar strum.

Kostrok · Right Now (Yuksek Remix)

Because it gets the people going

There are a lot of great builds & drops that I’ve heard before, but there’s not many that build as quickly and drop as smoothly as in Yuksek’s remix of ‘Right Now.’ And not many that catch like this chorus. The only thing I could go without is the indie interlude, but it picks up soon enough.

Also make sure to check out the original by Kostrok. Mighty different (not nearly as good).
